Marty's a real treasure. I bragged before that I got to "jam" with him on the Hill at Bean Blossom when he was with Lester Flatt. Well, me and about a hundred other pickers at the same time. I was playing a flat top with volume & tone controls on it. He came up to me and said, "turn it up" then turned the knobs! He has always been a humble guy. I got to see the Clarence guitar twice. Once played by Clarence White in The Byrds and again by Marty about 30 years later. I can't get enough of him and the Superlatives. His wife, Connie Smith, is awesome, too.

The consummate professional. Always on time, always in tune, equally excellent accompaniment and solos, both on guitar and vocally, a true showman, personable, band as tight as can be, cleanest arrangements and all that aside, he is simply one helluva player.

Marty is the real deal. Not only a great musician but, as has been mentioned, a great historian and keeper of the flame. He has a book of photos that is well worth having as well.

I've got that photo book - it was given to me by a fellow Marty fan. However, the book I really want is the "The Marty Stuart Show" book that has photos in it from the first five seasons on RFD-TV.

This story should have been in Ken Burns documentary instead of 2 hours about a Townes Van Zandt song. Here is another related video with Marty talking about records.

A mystery to be sure. If it's a magic neckerchief that aids in playing the guitar like Marty I want one.

Because of Marty's knowledge and appreciation of the music and it's history, he is fast becoming one of the elder statesman of the genre. He has his feet in so many different camps, he is one of the most respected musicians out there. Not just country but in the rock community as well.
