I have done something similar, not that extreme... That was horrifying! I hope it heals up quick, and take the lesson, don’t do crap like that again. I just sliced the tip of my left middle and index on a blade on a display model thickness planer. It’s like a big paper cut, but still sucks, and was dumb on my part!
Sorry to hear that .... on the plus side, providing it won't reopen the wound ... great opportunity to concentrate on developing slide playing for a few weeks.
About 25 years ago I smashed my finger at work, resulting in a cracked bone and a splint for four weeks. I spent that time learning how to play without my index finger, including building muscle memory for open chords with my other three fingers.
The other guitarist in my band at the time told me that he also mucked up a finger years prior, and dealt with it by learning to play slide.
If you truly want to keep playing, there's nothing holding you back!
Hang in there. I think a lot of folks who work with their hands have experienced something like this. Mine was a mishap with a router table (left ring finger) 25 years ago.
