For the uninitiated, Wilt (1936-1999) was arguably the greatest basketball player of all time. In 1962, he scored 100 points in a game, and has many other records.

Prior to joining the NBA in 1959, he was track and field star and, played a brief stint with the Harlem Globetrotters.

    But anyway...

I thought I knew a lot about him, but I never knew that he apparently recorded a single. He was 24 at the time.

    The flip side:

    And he was a guitarist:

I had absolutely no idea of his musical side. Thanks, ZackyDog

He played a mean volleyball game, too.

I did not realize he had released a single.
    Wilt was an interesting guy.

Louis Farrakhan also made some records.

Wilt was one of my idols growing up. I saw him play in 1960. Of course I was just a kid but his size and presence I will never forget. Cool story.

I loved watching him play basketball when I was a young guy! I heard about some of his hobbies, but didn't know about the music! Cool - thanks for posting!

He liked to hang in Vancouver, I've heard a few stories...he was King of the Beach at 1981's Kitsilano Beach Volleyball Tournament.

I thought his 20,000 women claim was the end of it. Perhaps this was the reason?

That end 45 label and logo of the dog going and coming brought back memories.

Strange timing. My dad knew him in college; he was just talking about him when my daughter and I were out visiting on Tuesday. I'll have to ask him if he knew anything about his musical interests. I'd never heard that before.

Apparently, he was also a disc jockey at the student radio station at KU. Seems like athletes from back in the day were a lot more well-rounded than many of today's athlete-specialist. Maybe Wilt was an exception; I don't know.

Actually after his basketball career was equally impressive. He was a shrewd investor and businessman. He helped start the professional volleyball arena in the USA and was an early president of the league. He is also in the IVA Hall of Fame. He owned businesses and even did some acting. He did not squander his money at all.

I had no idea either, reminds me of the time I was listening to an "oldies" station driving through Minnesota and heard them talking about Joe Pesci singing on the street corners with Frankie Valli.
