Recently read his biography. There’s a depth to him that explains his unique ability to perform the way he does……………………….dies that make any sense, I can’t think of another way of putting it.

Willie's an extremely underrated guitarist. A little bluesy, a little country, a little jazzy, but always super melodic and 100% Willie.

The magical, beautiful sound of a nylon string in his hands is very inspiring to me.

This solo on a nylon in this one has always impressed me with the bluesy intensity and that tone.

His voice is also one I adore, such sweetness and care in each phrase.

Has anyone ever rocked as hard on a nylon string guitar as Willie does on Whiskey River? Just an all-timer solo for me.

Saw him on July the fifth in Dallas. He’s truly still got the lead playing, but unfortunately he seems to get lost in most of his songs. It’s always hard to watch someone in decline, and I hope he’s only still touring because he wants to be and not because people are exploiting his vulnerable state for money.

But yeah he’s underrated as a lead player that’s for sure.

If Red Headed Stranger is 10/10, this record is a 9.5/10.

Can’t believe it’s almost 30 years old.

HIGHLY recommended, especially if you like Willie’s playing. If you don’t like Willie’s playing , I’ll pray for you…🙏🏽

In my younger days going to Willie's picnic was a right of summer. The heat was offset by all the players. Willie would come on and blow all of us there for the music away.

Listened to Red Headed Stranger yesterday. Maybe one if the best story albums ever.

Amazing songwriter, great, non typical chord changes! A golden voice when younger too!

I've had trouble watching Willie live now for a couple decades though. He sings or plays a few bars and never finishes a solo or a verse. He seems so bored....... of course he's played those songs live a thousand times I guess.

The female vocalist I work with "sings behind the beat" a lot. Drives musicians nuts. Doesn't bother me too much though. Mostly when she comes in at the start..... it can be a bit weird.

Both his singing and his soloing are highly unusual; starting and stopping in non-logical places. He wasn’t always like that, he seems to have evolved organically into his own unique style. If anyone else did it, it would sound like a screw-up, or a shtick, but it’s just Willie being Willie. It’s not easy being completely original, but he makes it look easy because it’s real.

Those eyes look deeply into the soul of mankind and says, “Don’t ever lie to me”.
One of my favorite photographs of Willie
