I know stew Mac is a tremendously divisive subject here...
I’ve been going through a lot of the stew Mac videos on YouTube, the majority of them with Dan Erliwhine. I know Dan has his own guitar repair shop, in Ohio (I think?)

But it got me wondering - who actually is this guy Stewart Macdonald? I couldn’t find anything about him on the interwebs. Seems like a funny name for a company if it’s not after some dude...

    Maybe I’m way off here

It's not a guy. It's two guys. Kix Stewart and Bill MacDonald.

I believe the name is Sewart-McDonald, as in a partnership.
I've done business with them since way before the internet and Dan Earlwhatever is their only public face I've ever seen.

I’m not familiar with any controversy about StewMac, other than being higher than a giraffes ass, I’ve never heard anything bad.

they ( stewmac ) have come up with inovative ideas in luthier tools etc and made them commercially available to us loonies who have to take thier guitars apart, no controversy here , just that alot of the tools they sell you can make for yourself for much cheaper than the Stew-Mac price tag , but none the less are fine ideas , and if you do buy their products they are usually of good quality and or design........just pricy

yeah, I was wondering why a ruler costs $100. Maybe you have to pay for each 64th printed on it?

Yeah, few people know the real story behind how James Burger and Roger King decided to get into the fast food business. Fascinating stuff.

Not anymore...it was recently sold to some kind of big conglomerate.

I think I'm done with them. Got the free $15 gift and figured I'd get a bone nut for a neck I'm finishing. With shipping that would have been $26 minus the gift. Went on Amazon and got an Allparts slotted bone nut for $7 including two-day shipping.

Isn't he the immortal that lopped off Duncan MacLeod's head and became the seller of over priced rulers to us all?

They have stuff that I sometimes want.

    I order it.

It comes and I use it.

Other places sometimes have stuff that I want.

    I order it.

It comes and I use it.

    Seems pretty simple to me.

    :)

That is true, but the OP did ask who Stewart MacDonald is.

They can be pricey, no doubt. Either way, like anything else, use them or don't

Yep. I've jury-rigged stuff based on their catalog; then a lot of times I just end up biting the bullet and getting their thing cuz it works better.

Gonna be a dam fine ruler!

    James Roger, o'course

I have an insane attention to detail, almost OCD so when I jury rig something it usually works just as good, my issue is I dont have all the tools to make all the tools:lol::lol::lol::lol:

I have been using their gear for about 20 years now and am finding them expensive.
However their guitar kits, especially the acoustic ones , are sensational. I made their version of a D-18 for a customer back in 2004 and it's sounding better all the time. He won't sell it!
