Can we see a picture of the label? If it's an MG cab, it's been upgraded.

Edit: It looks more to me like a 1965A.

I think the newer mg cabs like yours have white piping whereas my older version has no or black piping. They look much better with the white piping imo.
I don't know if they made any other structural changes, speaker upgrades etc.

Here's mine I got in 2011? Ive been meaning to get around to fixing the broken baffle since then so its never been used. Still has the tagger on it.:)

I think they come loaded with either celestion rocket 50's or 70/80's? Cant remember.
If you ever decide to put speakers in it glue the t studs on to the baffle and go easy when screwing them down. From memory I think the baffle is particle board or mdf and on top of the baffle arriving broken on mine one of the studs spins and has chewed up the surround of its mounting making it impossible to tighten or loosen that threaded screw without tearing up the grill cloth or taking it off..

If I were better at carpentry...

That would be cool if you converted it to a shelf unit. Make a frame and hinge so the grill face opens like a door, and put shelves in it. Good storage for "guitar stuff". I think that would be really cool.

As Chunkocaster pointed out, the white piping is uncommon. Casters are also uncommon and may have been added later.

A quick look at your picture also makes the texture of the cabinet look deeper than on MG cabs (more like the MIE cab vinyl). And it's my lack of knowledge, but I couldn't remember if MG cabs had cups on top.

Just wondering if you got an even better deal than you thought. Still looks great!

My gf is also a designer and can tell a new guitar even if I bought 10 of the same model in beige, she would be saying one had overtones of pink and 1 orange

She should work in a tile factory rejecting indistinguishable white tiles

I would dress it up as a gift for her to store high heels in, like the Homer Simpson bowling ball, then inherit it reluctantly

at this point, she is probably correct. but, once you place a speaker or speakers in it, it will make sense. you probably could have explained that aspect better. good luck.

    play music!

I have a 4 x 12" Dean Markley cab that I got cheap off of Craigslist. It turns out that it has some speakers that Dean custom spec'ed from Eminence. The sad thing is that I don't have anywhere to put it and it's been living at my bass player's house for a couple of years. It sounds great with my Traynor Bassmaster head. I'd love to use it with one band or another just to scare the sound person.

I did the same only it was an empty '76 Marshall 4x12 for $100.

That was a few months back and it's still chillin' in the back room waiting for a purpose. The matching head/speakers at a smokin' price is a little harder to come by!

No one questions my purchases, but I think I'd be tempted to say, "I was looking for 4x12 to mount four speakers I'm planning to buy, and look ... perfect timing at a steal of a price. Good deals are where and when you find them." Is that not close enough? Never know when four great twelves will fall in your lap and you'll be glad you have a box to put them in.

Put in a hifi speaker, and a Bluetooth receiver. Make it the coolest mp3 player ever.

    A friend suggested that.

But I don’t listen to music via Bluetooth at all.

I would have bought it for $40 and converted it into a pedal display cabinet and cable storage, with some cool lighting.
