    I was reminded of this video by a different thread that lamented new artists covering older songs without adding any noticeable artistic changes.

    I really like the Black Pumas; their song “Colors” is one of my favorite songs of the past couple years, and while I don’t think this performance of “Wichita Lineman” matches Campbell’s, I think it’s cool that a newer artist chose to cover this particular song, especially since it’s pretty far from their usual repertoire.

    Dude also plays a pretty sweet thinline...

    This is their other song that I mentioned.

    Also relevant to that idea that a good cover is supposed to be all shiny new, Aloe Blacc covered VU’s Femme Fatale. Is this good enough to cut the mustard? :)

    Thanks for that, Black Pumas is new to me. Wichita Lineman is not a song I’m particularly fond of (sorry, it just somehow was never my thing), but that version works for me very well. I like having my eyes opened on a Sunday morning.

    I wasn't aware of Black Pumas until earlier this week. They instantly grabbed me. Great sounding band and good writing. I bought the 'deluxe edition' of their album yesterday. I had not run across Witchita Lineman yet though - cools stuff! I was a big Campbell fan when I was a kid. The single of Galveston was the first record I ever bought. Thanks for posting.

    I, too, never cared much for Wichita Lineman....or any Glen Campbell for that matter.....although I liked his voice and guitar skills. I just never cared for his material choice. All that has changed, however. Whether I've "mellowed with age"....or (as I like to think) simply expanded my preferences, I now have a GREAT appreciation for songs like this.....and the Black Pumas do an excellent version. Thanks to OP for posting. ;)

    I like the group ok, but the Wichita Lineman cover holds no appeal for me. Just doesn't bring anything new to the song that justifies covering it.

    I saw the "Black Pumas" on PBS last summer and was very impressed.

    It's so good to hear younger musicians making (imo) worthwhile music.

    SOUL MUSIC LIVES!!!

    Thanks for posting. I like the band, both songs above and particularly the guitar. I've really come to appreciate Jimmy Webb's songwriting in the last 10 years or so. I never get tired of Wichita Lineman. It always grabs me as such a uniquely American love song. I always image a beautiful sunset when I hear it:

    i think that is a very decent version of (imo) one of the best songs ever written. i've been trying to figure out that chord progression for years.

    Love Black Pumas, Wichita Lineman is my favorite all time song (John Stannard is with me on this) pairing the two is cool and wonderful and joy.

    Love the song "colors" also - I heard it a few months back - driving and flipping thru sirius channels-

    and after a minute of the intro and first verse - I pulled over and just sat listening - blown away -

    here is my favorite "not Glen Campbell" versions of wichita lineman;
