Back in my audio engineering days, metal musicians were typically a joy to work with. Very professional, laid back, and cool to be around. There was an occasional exception, sure, but for the most part metal days were the good days.

Meanwhile some of the absolute worst to deal with were the happy joy musicians. Motivational pop (it was a thing), children's music, and happy pop/rock in general.

So the music that told people to feel good about themselves was often performed by continually angry, insufferable egomaniacs.

But the music that told people to unflinchingly stare into the void was performed by laid back, pleasant, seemingly well-adjusted people.

I have a theory that being able to get out frustrations helps us mentally adjust. But bottle it all up, even in music, and cover it in a "just be happy" sheen, and the dark ball inside will continue to grow.

I’m not a metal head. But one thing I know down to my bones. It is an absolute certainty. It is irrefutably shared human experiential knowledge.

LOUDER = BETTER

If it's too loud, you're too old! What a minute. I am old.

I'm not really a big metal head. I can vent out some frustrations by blasting out something like The Pretender's Mystery Achievement or Better Than Ezra's Long Lost.

I'm down with it through early (Cliff-era) Metallica, but other than the revivalist stuff, anything later than that does not much for me, with a few exceptions like Wo Fat

cookie monster vocals is a big part of this. I just can't.
You're not one of the happy ones.

Looks like Satan was right after all.

Damn it. 2000 years of righteousness down the drain . . .

Not exactly cookie monster vocals, but what do you think of this norwegian happy metal band?
You gotta love'em!

My main familiarity of Varg/Burnum is from the documentary "Until the Light Takes Us" and Varg's youtube channel uploads. That video reminded me of all those shenanigans, is all, Also that one guy kinda looks Varg-ish

Aha. I get it.

So no opinion on the actual music then?
Which was what I meant to ask in the first place.

Oh, and it is spelled Burzum.

The music is not my thing, at all. I am aware it's highly influential.
