Why do you post without reading the whole thread?

I see this quite frequently. Someone may ask a question and it gets resolved a page or two in, but people still post follow up questions, suggestions or even the same answer that provided the resolution. I've even seen people admit that they haven't read the whole thread and post anyway.

I get not reading five (or whatever) pages - sometimes you don't have that much time. And of course it's possible to simply overlook a post that contains information you were going to post.

But deliberately posting blindly like that doesn't really contribute much. It's usually just cluttering up the thread with redundancy.

So, stand up, take responsibility, hold yourself accountable: why do YOU do this? (And if you don't - thank you.)

Sometimes you can specifically answer an OP's question intelligently ( with as an ex., say hands on experience about a guitar or amp) without having to read an entire thread, or any of it.

So it may mean your response is a repeat or similar of someone else's earlier post, but that's ok, IMO

That's why I only have a few posts in ten years. Read the whole thread and you lost your thought that you would've liked to post, or it's been covered ad nauseum.
I did discover the search function "within this post" so if my thought/idea is not already covered in the several pages then I start typing . . .

I do it because I don't have time and time is valuable.

If I think I have something to contribute to the OP's question, I post a reply, trying to help the OP resolve the issue.

In every thread there's clutter. But the clutter is not caused by valuabel threads (with helpful answers) posted by those who didn't read through 15 or so pages of redundant posts. The clutter is caused by those who post unclear, often one sentence, comments that do not contribute or answer the OP's question.

Not all people have time to read through all that.

Does getting the same useful answer 4x make it any less useful or does it mean that it's a generally accepted answer?

There are very few issues or questions on these forums that have never come up before. The same thing that has 50 people asking the same question has 10 people providing the same answer.

Not sure many threads are asking for a simple yes or no answer or are looking for a singular solution to a problem. My threads are usually open ended - "what's the best speaker for X amp?"

Worse than that are the drift posts. You start a thread and by the tenth or twelfth post the thread has drifted completely off subject.
And, there was this time at band camp......
I am not sure that is worse at all. It is a conversation and conversations often take different turns be it on a forum or in your living room. Sometimes they can be a distraction and sometimes they can lead to an even more valuable insight.

There are limits of course.
