That's not correct, they still "borrowed" massively, though not only from blues guys. You can find numerous examples listed on the world wide interwebs...

I only liked their first album, myself.

I think the topic has been covered. If you like them you like them, if you dont you dont.

    Personally, Im a fan.

I think I remember John Mayer saying he had stolen a number of Claptons licks. Dont really care for either of them, but still.

It's pretty difficult to slam Led Zeppelin. IMO, they never made a bad record. They made some of the most iconic rock music ever. They simply cannot be ignored. Cover band? Who didn't borrow from the blues masters anyway? The blues influenced everybody.

It's interesting that Pete and Keef are contemporaries and fellow country men of LZ. They see them as rivals more than anything, it seems.

Wrong, the Stones hold that honour.

On many occasions Townshend has stated that he hates his own band as well, I'm not seeing anything newsworthy here.

The Who and the Stones achieved great things, but in the 70s they got overtaken by Zeppelin in terms of ticket and record sales. Zeppelin were the biggest band in the world at the time, and they helped move rock on to the next level, where bands could start filling stadiums all over the western world and beyond.

It's easy to imagine that Pete and Keith feel a bit of jealousy over that usurpation, but I'm sure they could get over it easily enough too. They both know they're legends in the world of rock who've made decisive contributions to the genre.

The simple truth is they both seem to genuinely dislike Zeppelin's music.

Soo its OK to steal it and put your name on it, as long as you admit it?

I judge the quality of a band by how good they sound live. I really liked a lot of Zeppelin's early recordings. Saw them live once and it wasn't so good. They were just going through the motions.

Maybe I caught them on a bad night.

That is literally just as ridiculous as someone saying they love Jack White but that that they don't like Led Zeppelin.

I think the Knebworth footage from 1979 is an absolute assault. AFAIC they are smoking:

I heard the comparison to the Spirit song. That suit is a joke.

Not that it matters one whit to anyone but me, but I still love The Who, still like The Rolling Stones and haven't listened to much Zeppelin since the 70s... especially anything past that 'Zoso' album.

    Complete FM radio burnout.

I love LZ. Always have. They're a monster band. But I will admit that some of the plagiarism stuff that's come out in the last several years really takes some of the shine off it for me. It wasn't just from the old blues guys either. It was from other rock bands. Pretty much my whole life, "Dazed and Confused" was the ultimate song for me. I was really bummed when I found out Page ripped that song off a folk singer named Jake Holmes (who had opened for the Yardbirds, introducing the song to Page) and then not only not giving songwriting credit, but thereafter refusing to admit that he'd even heard Holmes' music before.

Probably 'cause they had better looking groupies, and more of 'em.
