Years ago I built a theremin in a nice wooden case, from a Bob Moog kit. I was a hit at Halloween.

Playing a theremin is exactly like playing a violin, without the violin.
Heh. How hard is it to learn to do the Jimmy Page feedback freakout stuff on a Theremin?

Theramins are cool. I built one from a kit once. The big ones are much better.

But why didn't they become more popular?
I think to some extent they are like the love for a new wacky pedal though, a one trick pony maybe. Like a flanger on max effect maybe.
"What else you got?"

Just need overdrive and a delay/repeat. His is a bit of a cheat as it has a single antenna, for pitch. Mine is configured like the original, with a vertical antenna for pitch and a horizontal loop antenna to control the volume.

A good theremin sounds like a violin/opera singer.

They have a theremin app. Not sure how good it is.
