    Indeed!

I owned a Fernandes Tele copy for the first several years that I was a member here, and it was my only "Tele". No one looked down on me for that (maybe for other reasons, but not that  ), and there was a gentleman who went by the name of "will" (always a lower case "w") that collected Fernandes Teles, and had over a dozen of 'em I think. I'd like to know what ever happened to that guy. A real nice guy.

No, you don't even have to OWN a Tele to participate. You don't even have to LIKE 'em. You just have to be interested in them.

Build it yourself projects are great too! Only one thing better than that is to buy someone else's "Build It Yourself" Tele. They're always cheap, and saves you a lot of trouble. Just grab and go! My main #1 Tele now is a Parts-O-Caster that I found at Elderly's in Lansing for .... $399 I think it was.

    Welcome aboard! Enjoy!

    Joined the TDPRI because:

    1. Knowledge all in one place. On my own it would have taken a life time and even then...

    2. Being part of a community of tele-lovers. We are the "odd-man-out" bunch and we love it.

    3. Voyerism. I like looking at other people's pretty teles, amps and assorted gizmos.

Had a Strat for years and bought first Tele.

Mainly, though, after finding it, this place felt just like home...

Great group of people who share knowledge, ideas, and love to have fun without all the politics and petty behavior you often see elsewhere.

Also, there is a great attitude of support here. For those of you who know what we've been through, I honestly can't thank the group here enough for support going through it.

    +1

It was actually pure luck caused by my love for and interest in Telecasters and Tele players.

I immediately realized that this forum had some very knowledgable people that generously shared their knowledge with us less knowledgable.

Today I feel that I can pay back some of what I owe to the forum by helping others who may know even less than I do, and also express my opinions on Telecaster related and other (mostly musical) topics.

    Hi Members:

I joined in order to read the announcements at the top of the page. Okay I am busted, not the reason at all, but I do read the announcements... do I get my free cookie now? :D

I do not remember why, but I am very glad I joined this forum. Great knowledge and fun! ;)

Because I wanted to learn more about guitars. I found a whole bunch of guitar websites, but the others were all either ghost-towns, Don Rickles tribute sites, or Peter Pan clone-dromes.

Folks here have a lot more to say, so I've picked up a lot. I'll never go to music school, so this is a great online education.

    Thanks, gang!

I had been reading something like alt.electric-guitars or rec.electric-guitars in the discussion groups they had before websites. The group had largely been taken over by one guy who would buy an expensive guitar and huge amp, tell everyone that it was the best and anyone who played anything else in any other style was an idiot, until 6 months later when he would get a new guitar and amp. He only played in his bedroom, and made threats and incredibly racist comments to anyone who had a different opinion. I decided to leave there and look for a moderated discussion group.

Did a search and found the original TDP. It was a warm safe haven of guitar talk. I haven't looked back since.

I got divorced in 1996 and had to sell all my instruments except my 1973 Martin D28. I borrowed my sons instruments to keep gigging till I got my feet back under me.

Somewhere around 1998-99 I bought an AMSTD SB MN Telecaster and a AMSTD SB RW Stratocaster. I hadn't had a Tele in a while and fell back in love with it. In 1999-2000 my gal gave me a MIM 50's Classic in white blonde. I was so completely head over heels in love with all things Tele again that I went on an Internet search to see what was out there. I initially found 0le Fuzzy's site (I thought I was into Tele!!), then stumbled into the old format TDPRI. I originally signed up as Teletubby, but found someone already had that moniker (again, sorry about that!). I then became Fret Wilkes...big stretch.

I've seen alot of fun things and not so fun things happen here over the years (invasion of the Les Paul Forum, the Beatle infestation, 0le Fuzzy bailing several times, etc.), but the TDPRI is rock steady. I even won a Tele Thinline body and neck about 5 years ago in the Giveaway! I've learned how to build a Tele, fix a Tele, bias an amp, find a good speaker, find a good pedal, Tele history, how to bite my tongue and avoid conflict and most recently...the IGNORE button! The TDPRI is just a wonderful resource and a great place to hang.

All in all I'm still a TDPRI addict and a few things have remained constant...Paul Green, Mark Davis and Tim Armstrong to name a few. To quote Robert Hunter..."singing THANK YOU, for a real goood time!"

Actually, I thought I was joining RIPTD, a website dedicated to the memory of trombonist and bandleader Tommy Dorsey.

Imagine my surprise when I asked for the charts to "I'm Getting Sentimental Over You" and I get the following response:

"Iffin yew aint hear to tawk bout Fenner TELECASTERS yew kin turn round an giddy up outta hear...kinda lak ol' Ted Nugent sez onna beginnin off wang dang doodle sweet tang poodle song onna dubble live gonzo hee hee."

I stared teary-eyed at my monitor the rest of the day halfheartedly playing random Tommy Dorsey trombone melody lines with my armpit.
