why can't music be as much fun as it used to be?

Lots of good music out there of every genre imaginable. Lots of bad stuff too.

In the old days, a vast majority of people (me included) heard was curated by DJs and radio stations who picked out a few pieces they liked. But as we know, today the stuff often heard on the radio is not the greatest stuff. Which makes me wonder - how much great music did we miss out on because it was so filtered back in the day when DJs and radio were the filters?

Add to that the likelihood of getting a record deal when today anybody can 'release' something from home. How many stellar bands 40, 50, 60 years ago never were heard beyond their gigs due to the discretion of A&R?
