My guess is it's a starter amp for a lot of folks. They sell it to help fund the bigger 100-watt or tube amp that they think they need to be taken seriously.

Yep, that's a valid point.

Also the 50w lacks a few things (fancy footswitch capability, effects loop, another speaker, etc.) that the bigger stuff has, and a lot of folks are also just upgrading to the MkII version.

And yes, let's not forget there are probably millions of them out there by now...so there will always be a healthy 'pre-loved' market.

I'm not selling mine, it's perfect for what I need.

A lot of them were sold, especially to beginners, over the past 2 1/2 years. It was, and still is, one of the best affordable modeling amp choices. People who quit guitar sell them (and their Squier Affinity Strat or Epiphone Slash LP) since they probably need money for gas and groceries now.

The other reason is that if a beginner sticks with playing they'll get on internet forums or Reddit and hear "You gotta have TOOOBBBSSS" and instantly see their Katana as bad. So, they sell it to buy a tube amp and the never-ending cycle begins.

I don't think people sell it because of stage volume issues though. After all, who has been doing much big stage performing in the past 2 1/2 years? And, many venues now will have stage volume restrictions anyway.

I don't get the selling of musical gear. I hold onto stuff I don't even like much.
Because often that opinion/whim changes

I gotta get rid of that Marshall CODE though, man that thing sucks, I'd tried to tell myself otherwise for a long time, but it's just bad
hmmm, maybe if I tried my IMPULSE IR box in front of it...
(See how these things go? 😄)

Same here. I made the mistake of selling of some nice gear, including a '73 Strat and a couple of 80's Kramers, back in 1992. Since then, I've only sold a few items, mostly cheap guitars that I had bought used and rehabbed that went to friends who would appreciate them.

I sold mine after a month or two. Just didn’t like it as is. Thought it would be a fun little all in one bedroom type amp yet I was always running pedals through it so there was no point in owning it. I can run pedals through the Princeton.

For me the sound just didn't hold up after a while... That was with the Mustang iii. After that no more modelers as a gigging amp. I have a mustang I for bedroom and a street cube for busking. For real gigs it's my Traynor or 5e3

I think that bgmwcaw has it right. It was "the" starter amp at a time when there was the largest influx of new guitar players (many being adults with the means to buy better starter gear). Many could be getting out of the hobby and selling their gear. Those that stuck to it could have graduated into better (or just different) gear.

I'm pretty much all about Fractal FM3 now, but I still like the Mk I K100 1X12 that I bought for $200 in 2018, and still use it on occasion, works fine for grab 'n go all-in-one amp for jams and suchlike, I have some tones that I like preprogrammed on the switches and just stick with them, I don't bother with the editor anymore.

It also works well with my Tech 21 FR5.
