Why are there so many movies about hit men?

The same reason there’s so many movies about cowboys and bank robbers and spies…there’s a little desire in many/most of us to live by our own rules outside the norms of society…because we can’t do this, we watch movies about them.

When I scan through the movie selections on Amazon, I keep seeing listings for movies about hit men. Why? Are hit men really a big thing? I have zero interest in these flicks, but I guess there must be an audience for them.

Hit men are not fun. I like safe crackers in heist movies. They lay low, live well, and don't kill anyone if they don't have to.
I watched one movie of a currently popular hit man franchise and it was boring and idiotic.

Real life is not that exciting.
A guy getting up at 3:00 in the morning to go make his run in a refuse truck isn't exactly something you could do a lot with. How about John climbing aboard that old bus to carry a bunch of old ladies to the casino? Most of us live lives of quiet desperation and they wouldn't be interesting to anyone.

Can you imagine how bad Boss and Charley smelled after that long cattle drive? I'm surprised the bad guys ever let them into town.

Because we all dream of taking out the baddies, and Hollywood makes it easy to empathize with the protagonist.

Because everyone in the movie industry is incapable of coming up with anything that hasn't already been done. And as long as the audience keeps buying into it they don't have to.
So true. They even made a crappy new version of Ben Hur ( saw the real movie lately.)

Pure laziness. Anything with a 'hitman' sounds juicier. "There was this hitman, right, and he went to the shop to buy some cat food..." and you're off!

They help kids to develop realistic life goals, like becoming mass school shooters. Hollywood is known for its strong sense of civic responsibility.

When I'm looking on Netflix or Amazon for a movie I skip everything that shows someone holding a gun. That's a lot of movies. I just don't need to watch people killing each other.
