And they all show poor examples of relationships / femininity / masculinity / life in general.

Who is influenced by this inane swill?

...and even when I was in my 20's, when I was probably closer to the demographic they are targeting, I still thought they were stupid.

Think about it for a second...

They are advertising a smell.

Probably the hardest commodity to market ever.

Even taste is a piece of cake compared to smell.

Everything else you could possibly market you can see or hear.

Fragrance by itself is impossible. It has to be associated with something, or someone, hence the "name" scents.

It's something else causing these commercials to be so wacky. They want to sell romance and the feeling of power to their target audience, which is not us and why we are left confused. The commercials make perfect sense to their paying customers.

Smell is one of the strongest and most enduring memories we posses. Scent of a campfire with friends or family. The scent of that first girl you kissed that mingled her perfume, hairspray, laundry soap, body wash, and just her into a package that you still remember at a 30th class reunion. The scent of a skunk hit in the road a mile from your house and how it clings to your car every time you drive passed it for days. You vividly remember all of these things when you smell them again even years later.

My 6th grade son made the comment a couple days ago about how crazy this one perfume commercial was and how he dismissed it ... until I told him don't you know that's the actress from Star Wars. He's watched it more intently since.

If the perfume companies sold their product like beer commercials they would open up the other fifty percent of the buying market.

it's whole advertising scheme is totally derailed from reality , look at the names of products alone is just inane "24 Hour Body" -What you put this crap in a girls hair and it smells like a 24 hr old cadaver ? , or how about "Nice and Easy ", - you use this crap and and turn into a Skank. the stuff we are bombarded with and expected to embrace plays to how eger we are in general to be lead by the product manufacurerers. commercialism sucks but it is funny!
