Slappa da bass, mon
My first bass (back in the late 70s when I was at school (and had pretensions of forming a punk / rock band) was a Hondo Rickenbacker copy. Really badly put together but all I could afford. I moved up to a Gibson EB3 (short scale) with violin-style tuners. I hated the pick-ups - very woolly when I wanted the twang and punch of Geddy Lee and JJ Burnel. Anyway, the band broke up, I started work and I never really took up music again until recently.
I'm now actually learning guitar but I also wanted to play a bit of bass, so I invested "ahem.....!" in a Fender Jazz "Geddy Lee" (the Mexican one not the pricier US one) and I think it's stunning. Black body, white pick guard and maple neck with black blocks. Even my wife likes it. I also love the sound - via my Ashdown EVO combo.
I like my 3!
I'm with teleforumnoob:
"Un-pretty"? Really? You used the word pretty? Obviously a guitar player . . .
Per the "Beauty is in the eye of the Beer holder" rule, it's obvious you need another beer.
