Lance White, drove a white Cadillac and drove Rockford crazy because he did everything by the book and it always worked out for him.

I was a Mannix fan .... I really liked Columbo too, but found his and the plots' repetitive schtick to get old kinda fast .... "oh, but just one more question ..."

I think a police detective like Columbo counts

Where’s the guy to say “whoever makes the thread makes the rules”, I’m just kidding that’s the quickest way to get a reaming

I wonder why no one likes Cannon, he always had a sweet Lincoln to drive

Columbo. Ever since the episode where he looked at a body and said ‘he was a guitar player, the fingernails on his right hand are longer than the ones on his left’....................probably not an accurate quote, but you get the gist.

you forgot McMillan and Wife (Hudson, Susan St. James)

...and I don't know their cop names but Karl Malden and Michael Douglas in Streets of San Francisco...and if this intro doesn't grab you I don't know what does. I'm gonna have to see if I can mimic that Wah intro on guitar over turkey day weekend. What a killer intro, love the drums.

Colombo all the way for me from the poll list.

But from the British side of cops and robbers - hands down these guys! The coolest show ever when I was a youngster!

I’ve never seen that one is it in the same vein as something like “Highway patrol” or “Dragnet”?

    Is it a t.v show?

I hit play to hear the referenced wah, but the nostalgia kept me interested. My, how funky we were, in the 70s! I believe we’ve lost our groove, as a culture:p

I voted for Columbo, but liked all the ones listed.

One not listed might be my all time favorite... David Janssen as Harry Orwell.

"Columbo" is good, but the formula is too strict and the shows are overlong. I've watched some "Mannix" lately after not having seen it since the '70s and it was dumb fun. I've sampled some "Cannon," too, and... uh... I just don't know. Quinn Martin Productions never really work for me. "The Rockford Files" kicks all their butts. It still stands up on it's own merits, without adding points for nostalgia and period appeal. Occasionally, I'll put on a James Garner movie and I'll think, "This isn't nearly as good as a weekly episode of 'The Rockford Files.'"
