Tough call between Columbia and Rockford.
My all time favorite from the 60s to now is Monk.
Do you mean Kojak ("who LOVES ya, baby?") and not Kolchak? Wasn't that Darrin McGavin in The Night Stalker series?
Magnum wasn't 60s or 70s. It aired Dec 11, 1980
Kojak! The guys real name is Telly Savalas!
I don't name guitars but I just decided to name one of my tele's "Savalas"
Jim Rockford due to his awkward coolness.
Columbo because of his entertaining “brilliant fool” act.
Barnaby Jones because he played against type.
Magnum because of the car, and the fact my wife loves him...probably because he looks nothing like me.
Hawaii 5-0 was awesome, but it was awkward too...Jack Lord was so wooden, sometimes you could see the ventriloquist’s lips moving during McGarrett’s dialogue.
Cannon looks like he’d clog up your toilet.
Rockford had it all. Cool beach pad, awesome Firebird, and that James Garner swagger. I also kind of had a crush on Beth Davenport, the lawyer / sometimes girlfriend in that series. And who could forget Angel Martin?
Out of the choices available, Columbo.
Not according to the thread title silly.
Unfortunately I have to jump to the mid 90's and go straight to the best, Nick Slaughter. P.I. in the Florida Keys. Tropical Heat/Sweating Bullets. CBS Crime Time after Prime Time.
Columbo. My Dad liked Rockford, so I watched too, then Frank Cannon. All good in their own ways. There were actually quite a few good detective shows then.
Honorable mention: Kojak. Who loves ya baby?
Before Magnum Tom Selleck was a guest on Rockford who played a another private detective that was always lucky and everything always went right for.
Since we're all musicians shouldn't we ask who had the best theme song?
Still no contest!
Hey we forgot Baretta with the cockattoo on his shoulder and the awesome theme music. That's Sammy Davis Jr cool right there! Keep your eye on the sparrow!
All of the below.
From the list, Rockford, but I prefer Kolchak Night Stalker... guess I don't think of it as a detective show really.
No love for Starsky and Hutch? Dang
Post-70s, The Bunk, and it's not even close for anyone else.
Do you remember him in the way back when he was a rodeo rider called Stoney Burke?
That was one of my favorite TV shows.
You don't get a hook like this one in the previews today!
Cool landing on unimproved air strip by a Cessna 310 to boot. The world was on a roll and going somewhere then.
Gotta be Jimbo, just 'cause he was such a loser.
UTO. FTB. Mr BobTheOwl.
