Isbell and Son Volt are good. Last time the question was posted here, I named my favorite - "Neon" Leon Fullerton. Some others I can think of off-hand (hoping teams are welcome):

    The Band
    Billy Bragg
    Ray Charles
    Ray Davies of the Kinks
    Willie Dixon
    Aretha Franklin
    Richie Havens
    Tish Hinojosa
Hunter and Garcia of the Dead
Jagger and Richards of the Stones
    Jorma Kaukonen
    Shane MacGowan of the Pogues
Moran and Carton of the Saw Doctors
    Laura Nyro
    Mike Scott of the Waterboys
    Richard Thompson
    Jeff Tweedy of Wilco
    Jerry Jeff Walker
    Cheryl Wheeler

    Arghhhh!

I forgot Ray Davies! LOVE that guy!

Thanks for the heads-up, Howdog. I'm going back and adding him to my list.

    I owe you big.

I dunno. What about 'em? You tell me!

There are so many greats, sometimes I wonder why I bother.

Yeah, I have the same problem. I only find lists interesting for what gets left off of them. Even academics spend hours contemplating "The Canon" or the "Opus". It's a party game.

Dylan never ceases to leave me in awe of his skills. Not just the words, but where it all comes from. He seems like he's playing chess while everyone else is playing checkers.

what's truly remarkable about Dylan is how much depth he possessed at a young age

My oldest - closest friend on the planet...
    John Ross Lang

He's written ... a lot. Did really well, mostly pop, turning from that to pursuing a Master's Degree from Columbia University...

And becoming a special needs school teacher.

He's the fellow I bought my only real Strat from...after he'd already given it to me.

A lot of his songs suck, but I don't think anyone has touched me like Stephan Jenkins of Third Eye Blind.

    One example:
And the siren's song that is your madness
    Holds a truth I can't erase
    All alone on your face

I can't keep it all together
    I know I know I know...
I can't keep it all together

    And there's a memory of a window
    Looking through I see you
Searching for something I could never give you
    And there's someone who understands
    You more than I do
    A sadness I can't erase
    All alone on your face

    Be ashamed
    Of the mess you've made
My eyes never forget, you see
    Behind me

    Behind me
    The grace of falling snow
    Cover up everything you know
Come save me from the awful sound
    Of nothing

John Prine. He tells great stories with a lot less words than Dylan.
