Somebody is either a lady or has a mancrush!
But, my vote has to go to John Mayer, I don't care if people on this forum hate him, the man knows a damn lot more about music than you'd think from seeing how he's portrayed in the media.
Lot of people mentioned on this thread seem to be more guitarists than singers. How 'bout Joni Mitchell?
I'll nominate someone Michael McHenry, check him out on iTunes. He's a local guy I don't get to see him as often as I'd like but caught his new line up last night. Crazy, scary good.
Another one is Jon Butcher he has a new record out with Charlie Ferren. FBI really nice stuff.
Jerry Reed for me
Rather overlooked for his guitar playing, must have been overshadowed by his sense of humor I guess.
he's a little "past it" now, but in his day paul mccartney was an amazing vocalist, an accomplished bassist/guitarist/keyboardist, and a gifted writer (even though he himself admits he released a few "clunkers") pretty hard to write hundreds of tunes and not have a couple of weak ones in there.
some 'interesting' choices mentioned. by best singer/guitarist I would think you mean they would have to be great players and singers.
first few that come to my mind are:
Great writer, singer, guitarist and entertainer!
Mark Knopfler is pretty good too
I'm the best singer/guitarist in the house, when I'm home alone...
Ian Anderson is a flute player...got chops on that though
I'm just jealous because the supermarket tabloids are always showing his latest celebrity hottie conquests. I guess he does it the same way Hendrix did... By rocking that axe and singing the blues.
Raul Malo, plays a very good rhythm guitar and writes some great tunes and great arrangements. His voice is so good he leaves all others in the dust. You may not like his style, but the women sure do.
I've seen Raul play electric guitar he's no slouch at all. Definitely way up there in vocal department.
