For a clean sound, probably Tim Farriss (INXS) or Chrissie Hynde, back in the 80's.

This thread should have ended with the prince clip, it can't be bettered. Perhaps the finest musician/song writer of his generation, if not all time

Man my, many of my favorites have already been listed. Keith Richards among them.

My google-fu can't find a postable version, but on the Live Licks version of Brown Sugar, Micawber is just barking through the whole song. A clinic in his choppy, aggressive rhythm playing with a Tele-tone to match.

    bout time for Al Anderson

    Sadowsky, Bardens

and him back in the NRBQ days, a sweet sounding paisley

he lost track of that one somehow, would like to find it again

Tommy Ardolino RIP, probably my favorite drummer of all time, listen to this, uh, strat and groove

crazy good. that's a damn good sounding strat -- sounds just like a tele!

    and a third tele:

please tell me who's playing this kind of music today

I happen to really like one of my favorites Mick Ronson. He was mostly known for playing a Les Paul Custom but after he finished recording and playing live with David Bowie, he switched to playing a Tele in his' extraordinary style. Sorry he is no longer with us.

When I close my eyes, I hear Jim Campilongo's tone with Bill Frisell's phrasing. It's...perfect.

    JIMMY BRYANT!!!

The single most badass Tele player I've ever heard. Love his tone. It was simple... but his playing wasn't. Absolute blazing speed... jazz runs in country... melodic... and technique for days!

Cornell Dupree, Steve Cropper, Duke Levine, Guthrie Trapp, JC Dook, Bill Frisell, John Scofield (Yes, he sometimes plays a Tele).

Seems that I like clean tones ...

This is the edited version, but Jon Herington gets some great Tele tone in Steely Dan's FM. Somewhere around 1:40.
