I'm thinking about getting a Super Swede, and possibly a Hagstrom acoustic.

Anyone care to share any and all Hagstrom experiences with your fellow forumites?

Me!!! I bought an F-200 (SG'ish) about a year ago to add a Gibson-esque guitar to my arsenal. I love it. To me the neck is fantastic & fast. The fretboard is a different material but plays like ebony. The pups are great for OD/semi-OD...just OK for clean.
I played it last night with the band and it blew me away. I've been rehearsing exclusively with my Tele just so I wouldn't have to haul 2 guitars. For the thick chunky classic rock sounds it is great. My bro-in-law bought the Hagstrom D2H and it too was great.
BTW - I bought a "b" stock off of Ebay for $205 shipped...not set up at all. Took a good bit of work to get it where I like it. Most models have increased significantly in the last year. Also - on other note - the neck is not chunky, rather thin which I like because I have small hands...yeah just small hands:D

Had a Super Swede for a year. Flawless guitar. It was perfect right out of the box. I hate flawless guitars.

It seriously held its own against my 82 LP Custom. Sold it finally since I already had the Paul and it gets no action. I'm a simple Tele man these days.

Look my friend Tim Maurey up on Ebay = Strings and Things Music I believe. Super guy that I bought all my Hagstroms from. Look his contact number up because he does not do email. He's always got some insane good deals.

PS. Still have my D2F silver sparkle right here. Crazy, insane fast fretboard.

I had a 60s or 70s Hagstrom Viking XII.
Used to be a 12 string, but converted it to a 6 string.

I played a Swede in a Top-40 duo in the early 80's. I didn't really know much about guitars back then, but it was a very versatile guitar. We played everything from Hall & Oates to ZZ Top to Elvis to CCR to Stones to Merle Haggard. That guitar could do it all, and with just a Peavey Bandit and a chorus pedal.
I remember it being somewhat heavy, but it sounded great and I loved playing it. I had no idea who Hagstrom was, but I liked the style of the guitar.
I played just about every small town bar, lounge and pub in BC over a couple of years, and the guitar never let me down. It stayed in tune really well, and survived two car crashes, an occasional beer spill, and lots of playing with little maintenance and care, other than a wipe-down after every set.

I don't know if I'm rocking or not (probably not), but I picked this up recently:

It's an extremely nice guitar. It has flawless fret work (which isn't true of all the new Hagstroms that I've looked at), terrifc (bright, punchy) pickups, a nice finish, and super tuners. It even has, as far as I can see, a one piece mahogany back.

I've looked at a few other (new, MIC) Hagstroms that aren't as nice as the one I bought, but they generally seem to be pretty well put together and a decent buy.

My advice on these is try before you buy--the one I bought has perfect fret work and I looked at a couple of others this weekend that, being charitable, didn't.

By the way, the model in the picture is a Select Ultra Swede.

Overall, I think that the new Hagstroms are fun, quirky cool guitars that can range from decent to wonderful.

That's pretty! They offer the Super Swede in vintage sunburst, cherry sunburst and black for us lefties, so no quilt-top Select Ultra for me.

Man that's a big hagstrom. I use to own a Hagstrom, there nice guitars, only thing is the neck was to thin for me, I eventually traded it in, but they do make some nice guitars.

I tried a Viking at a shop a while back, and the neck was a deal-breaker. It wasn't thin, so much as it was flat. I never realized how much the curve of my Tele neck matters to me, but I just couldn't get comfortable on the Hag.

Does 'jazzing' a Hagstom count?
D'Aquisto model from the 80's(?)

Pretty cool guitar. Not great though. Looks better than it sounds.

For me. 50th birthday present from the Mrs. Single floating humbucker, matte finish hollowbody for jazz or at least my feabile attempts at it. Sweet neck nice fretwork. Sounds almost acoustic at low volumes. I've had it a month and half and its my primary practice guitar.

Agree with a previous poster that try before you buy is a good idea. The store had several of this model and others and there are large variances in the feel even of the same model. Even larger than the lite-ash teles of a few years back.

I just love the look and the sound. One of my favorite guitar players is Aaron North and he's got several Hagstrom IIs and IIIs.
