I'm dbenson32 also over there...there is a wealth of information and a few guys who truly love their guitars. Unfortunately there are more folks who focus on the negative i.e. personal attacks which are very common. It also seems to be more about $$ and collecting rather than playing for the love of playing like the attitude mostly is here.

Yeah, I don't go there very often actually.

I haven't made it over there yet, which is funny 'cuz I love them Les Pauls. I'm on StratTalk using the same name as here. I really got to these forums to learn to tinker and build, but I found a lot more. I'm working my skills up to try bindings and set necks, then I shall venture over to the gibby forum, if I ain't already there.

Edit: Scratch that, I just went and claimed my user name. The same as here.

ugh, my username is "needlespauls". Why'd I have to pick that name lol! Great forum over there in my opinion. All said and done it is a Les Paul forum, so you have to expect ut-most Les Paul and Marshall love, that'll go with the territory. There are some great sections of non-LP stuff, so thats great. Between that forum and this one, I'm covered. Love both places!

I am over there as well, but haven't visited in quite a while. I agree about the snoodiness of some of the folks that own "real" Les Pauls. At one point there was a large thread about creating a separate forum for non Gibson made "Les Pauls" as they felt they were inferior. You could catch the undertones was more of a rich man vs poor man.

pretty much the same with me - same user name on both forums, but i rarely hang out at mylespaul anymore - went there originally looking for info about humbuckers and i did find some info there, but (take deep breath and count to ten) really got tired of all the negative posts - i go there once in a blue moon, but don't post much anymore -

I've signed on in another "Les Paul Forum", but I haven't been there in ages. It and another forum that talks about Martin guitars seem to have "members only" attitude.

And I'm like, "Dude, I have a '74 Gibson Cherry Sunburst Les Paul Deluxe, isn't that good enough?"

If you don't have a Les Paul Standard, at the very least, they won't even waste their time on you...IMO.

I'm not a member there and after reading this thread I won't bother. I don't have the time or patience for rudeness.

I'm also on there but i generally Prefer This forum the people seem more laid back and respectful less likely to go oh god not this again use the search form i agree with the post about how that site seems a bit snoody . My first post I broke the cardinal rule of not using proper punctuation and what not. I told them sorry but have't had to type a lot , last time i regularly typed on a computer was in Iraq talking to family not much time for the proper things there, anyways one thing irked me the most was oh we get a lot of trouble makers here that do stupid things then look for sympathy so if you really are a vet thats no excuse blah blah. All I have to say is theres a reason my planks are my number one and 2 and everything else is just backup. thanks for being so laid back and not stuck up. and one final thought thank god we don't get slash tone threads.

I know the forum of which you speak, and there is a definite hierarchy there, with the Norlin/USA production guys at the bottom of the totem pole, followed by supersubtle gradations through the Gibson Custom Shop models and then through the vintage Gibsons, with the people who own original 1958-1960 Bursts acclaimed as the very pinnacle of musical skill, tone and taste. We're Not Worthy! (Before anyone dismisses this as sour grapes, I do own a 1956 vintage Les Paul.)

Also, there is a definite Emperor's New Clothes effect there, where members compete to claim to hear the difference between different brands of 500K potentiometers or the singing qualities of "old wood."

I like Les Pauls. I post there occasionally. I am actually not that much of a Tele freak, but I like the much more skeptical and friendly atmosphere around here.

I know not to post but I go there for that reason. It's very entertaining until you become the target. Besides there's that capacitor cult thing going on.
I joined because I bought a 96 Epi gold sparkle Les Paul.

HOLY COW.

I just went to mylespaul for the first time...

and the last!

Thank you for being the TDPRI.
You can find me at the strat talk under the same name, but honestly this is the only place I seem to need to go for information of ANY sort when it comes to ANY guitar. You guys are the best.

Interesting that this place has more pro musicians (i.e. guys who actually can play) and less all-around gear snob attitude than any other guitar forum that I am aware of.

Which never happens here on the TDPRI... ;)

I am on there as well. I don't post much anywhere, but lately I enjoy reading this site more. I used to like the subforum that mostly talked about Japanese Les Pauls. There is a lot of knowledge (or there has been) there, but that subforum seems to be mostly dedicated to buying new Aria guitars (nothing wrong with that, just doesn't interest me). They were helpful when I was shopping for a Burny Les Paul.

There does seem to be a massive redundancy in thread topics. Somehow you can't go two replies without someone referencing Slash. Sometimes there is a large amount of anti-asia paranoia that gets a little heavy handed when someone seems to just be interested in learning about a guitar. It is not that it is a bad place but the good to crap balance is a little unstable along with the nice to ass ratio. I'd rather read a laid back conversation about country music (something I almost never listen to) than an up tight conversation about who saved gibson via endorsements or whatever. There also seems to be a bigger diversity of tastes and background around here.
