If there is such a thing, it's probably the best rock album of all time. Definitely top 5 and definitely an essential example of rock music as a high art form.
Douche bag!A great album with a lot of fine music.
For me, it's marred by a stupid cover. Wow, how edgy, that you guys urinated on a concrete block. Did you drink a lot of coffee or beer beforehand, to get the best possible photo?
Amazing that it was cut live...This thread reminds me that I need to go back and learn how to play Going Mobile. Always was curious how he played that and never got around to trying to figure it out. Guess I have a new weekend project now. It's gotta be one of the greatest rythym guitar parts of all time.
Nooo it was bad enough they went number one on the cover. Who wants to see anyone take a “douce” in a bagDouce bag!
Uh, Quadrophenia is for me the rhythm section apex for rock- just so perfectKeith Moon was never better recorded than on that album.
Same. It's about as good as an album can get.
And I could go for the rest of my life without hearing it again and I'd be okay with that. Not that I have anything against it, but at a certain time in my life it was seriously overplayed.
Absolutely. Although I loved "Who's Next", I never really appreciated The Who completely. In fact, I ignored much of their music for years. I didn't have much time for guitar for a long period because of family and career but, when I got back into playing in the 90s, I discovered or rediscovered a lot music, including The Who. Now they're most definitely one of my 4 or 5 favorite rock groups of all time. The Who, evolved almost as much as the Beatles.
I’ve always enjoyed it too…some *Real* standout performances from Entwistle and Moon. I don’t think Entwistle/Townshend were ever satisfied with the mix though. I believe Entwistle has been quoted as comparing the drum sound to “cracker tins.” I can definitely hear that they sounded different than other recordings I’ve heard of Moon’s; just not necessarily THAT badUh, Quadrophenia is for me the rhythm section apex for rock- just so perfect![]()
Yep, killer album. Bought the CD a few years ago as all I had was vinyl. We used to do "Won’t Get Fooled Again" back in the early 70's. Powerful song, but over time I grew to like some of the others even better. As it often was with LP's. You buy for the hit and like others even better! It's 1971, the beginning of my final year of college. Classes haven't started but we're back in town and a group of buddies are riding in a convertible with "Won't Get Fooled Again" blaring on the car's radio. Such memories!
I won't call it a perfect album but it's close. (Prove me wrong!). From the iconic album cover simulating the band whizzing on a large pillar to the incredible song list:
Entwistle's bass playing is great. I particularly liked his creativity on Getting In Tune. Daltry's voice was never better and Townshend was at the height of his songwriting and playing prowess.
- Baba O’Riley
- Bargain
- Love Ain’t For Keeping
- My Wife
- The Song Is Over
- Getting In Tune
- Going Mobile
- Behind Blue Eyes
- Won’t Get Fooled Again
It's easily one of my favorite albums of all time.
Same.
