I met @blowtorch and hopefully will again.
I had typed up something in this thread earlier but I see that's now gone...

Yep @bottlenecker co-hosted an awesome local community radio show (Monster Crawfish Roadrally Extravaganza) that I listened to religiously back when I first moved to town some decades back. It was my first exposure to the mighty Knuckel Drager. I've since seen him perform with his very cool band The Lonesome Cobras. He is very talented and a great guy
I've met @MilwMark in between sets at shared gigs with his awesome band Floor Model. He is also very talented and a great guy, too
@FenderGyrl provided me with a set of humbuckers that she had no use for. How cool is that?

Wouldn't it be great to hold an annual TDPRI convention?
Pick a central location - somewhere in the middle of the country like say Tulsa.
Or at least a place with a vibrant music scene and lots of guitar shops.
Get a block of rooms for cheap at a nicer hotel.
Book a conference room or 2 for jams, swap meets, etc.
Have a ceremonial dinner and elect someone "TDPRI Johnny" and present trophy.
Trophy could be a cheap Telecaster that the recipient is free to modify ...
Prizes for "Best Crocs with Sox," "Loudest Hawaiian Shirt," and "Sportiest Hat."
There's a thread in here somewhere ...
There's regulars here from New Zealand to California and everywhere in between, which makes that whisky bar in your profile pic near enough the geographical centre of the TDPRI world.
Unfortunately there's more bagpipe shops than guitar shops.

I visited Bluego’s temporary studio before he built his official one. It was kind of like going to GuitarCenter but much friendlier. Awesome pedal and pic collection!
I’ve never met Jakedog, but I’ve listen to his music so much I feel like we’re old friends.

I met Henry Winkler at the Denver Airport (DIA). I was a Supervisor for an outfit out there. We used to meet at a Restaurant that had a patio thing in the concourse. We saw him walking up and when he was about to pass us, myself and another guy did the Fonzie Heeeey! He totally cracked up, and talked with us for a couple of minutes. When he came out we were still sitting there and he stopped and talked with us again. He was a really nice guy and also really short.

That Gretsch looks like a blonde one that's been hand-painted black, and now the black is coming off. I'll have to give Rancid a listen... I'm guessing probably not classical or lounge jazz?
'...And Out Come The Wolves' & 'Life Won't Wait' are two of their more accessible albums. Some great songs.

Right, better go. The cat wants feeding! 😇

I’ve met in person @Benderfreak (I’m not sure he‘s still around), the late @Nicodermis, the absent @william tele, @Preacher, @dogmeat and @64 Tele.

I had a couple of Zoom song swap sessions with @teletimetx during the lockdown.

Dogmeat took my wife and me for a ride on his hovercraft up the Knik River near Palmer, Alaska, which was a real thrill.

I’ve enjoyed exchanging messages with many more.

I hope to meet more of you. I’ll be in Tulsa this weekend with guitars. If you’d like to meet up there, let me know.

In 2018 my daughter had just moved to London so I drove down a bunch of stuff for her (including my old Squier Strat) and brought along my Tele - then the next day I went to one of the London TDPRI Jams organised by @AngelStrummer, at which I also met (iirc) @Texas Special, @Mid Life Crisis and @Tony474. And a great time was had by all — but somehow no-one took any photos! 😀.

(You know there’s a few of us in Scotland… maybe someone will organise a Caledonian TDPRI Jam one day…)

I had a bi monthly TDPRI jam at my house in Denver 2014, 2015. I met 30 or more folks who were members, including Hongaman, Soulman696, Paul from Co and many others. I stopped having them in 2016 because both my folks died within few months of each other and kind of knocked the wind out of my sails. I retired the next year and moved to Greeley and Paul and Soulman and Deb the drummer started playing semi regularly but Paul passed away, then Covid hit. Haven’t jammed since. Bunch of nice folks, we’d play each other’s amps and guitars, trade pedals, share licks. Soulman was a great bass player and my friend James played drums so we had a good rhythm section every jam. Good time, good times!

Good times indeed! I was lucky enough to attend quite a few of these and enjoyed them very much. I know I've said thanks to gitold before for hosting those jams, but one more time won't hurt.

I was working my old theatrical audio job for some decent blues show at some point. Can't remember what. It was probably good. In the middle of a changeover between bands, KokoTele walks up and asks "are you Ben?" KokoTele is a good dude, and I've appreciated several of his pursuits. He also tended to come to the best shows we had there, so good taste, too. I've since moved away.

...And then since Bill Kirchen seems to be the most popular guy around, I guess I've met him, too. Different venue, but I mixed the band, and it was one of the better shows I did in that venue - especially since he has a bunch of old friends in the region, and there was a lot of musical catching-up. It also didn't hurt that Bill is one of the nicer dudes I've encountered in the business, and despite some stereotypes, there are a lot of good folks in that biz.

That's it. I think. It's possible that I might have been introduced to other folks at shows and I don't remember, but my memory is kinda fuzzy around that time.

I have only met one other member in person. I have spoken to another on the phone. I have Emailed a third. I'm not sure the second two count though. ;)

Back in the late 80's I was in Manny's on 46th street in NYC demoing amps in their amp room.

Every time I started to play "Mystery Train", some out of tune Bozo behind me, starting playing with me.

After 3 times, I turned around to tell the guy, "hey, I'm demoing the amp and have to hear it", and when I turned around, that player turned out to be .......

Elvis Costello.

I completely froze, he was in a winter coat, standing up, playing some guitar he pulled of the wall (hence it not being in tune)

He said "keep playing!", and I just sat there completely dazed.

After a minute or so, we started jamming, maybe for like 5 minutes, when a friend of his grabbed him, he said goodbye and left.

After he walked out the door, the guy at the front counter, said over the store intercom

"Elvis has left the building"

True Story

I've known IPLAYLOUD for a long time, we've jammed together a few times.

I've jammed with Johnny a bunch in Jersey.

Here's me (on the Gretsch) with IPLAYLOUD in our first band. Back then, he was known as IPLAYMARIMBA.
