I am looking at building a new custom guitar. I love the Esquire sound and pickup system, but not to found on the feel or looks. So this lead me to designing my dream guitar combining the aspects of all my favorite guitars into one.

I am looking for someone to build me a Gibson Les Paul flat-top style body (Special/JR) that is routed for the vintage Tele bridge/pickup, Tele control plate, Tele neck pocket, and side jack.

As for the neck the heel-end will have to be Tele, but the head stock I am looking for the Gibson tilt-back head stock cut to the shape of the Melody Maker

If anyone knows of a luthier or parts company that will do something like this... Please send the info my way!!

I know a guy who might be able to, but I'm not entirely sure. He does some beautiful work but he recently moved to Switzerland so it might be a tad difficult.

OH wait, they're in Canada. I don't know they move around a lot. I'm not sure if he does orders, but he's a good one to talk to.

I would call Warmoth. I think that if they can't get you all of the way they can get you most of the way. Calling them is best because when you talk to one of the guys there they can give specific details that may be hard to find or change on the website. they can also go ask one of the builders if something is doable. I wanted a few strange things on my last build and they were very accomodating.

On the other hand, I just looked and they have stopped doing LP style bodies, so maybe they aren't the person to call right now. I still recommend them for getting a project done.

I think it's rather inconsistent of the US court system to say that Gibson can hold a trademark on their body shape but not Fender. Sure, Gibson filed their trademark sooner, but the Fender case specifically pointed out that Gibson guitars had been copied since the 70s. I really doubt that nobody made an LP copy before 1987.

Fano's Alt De Facto SP6 is pretty much right on what you're looking for. Most just have a P90 (or filtertron) in the neck, but I bet if you ask nicely, they may do one with a Tele neck pickup. I dunno.

I really like the look of these.

They just wouldn't look the same if they weren't reliced would they?
