Thinking about building one as my first amp project. How do you like it? What amps do you use it with and what are the diminsions of the cab? Oh, almost forgot to ask what speakers you're using. Thanks everyone!

There's a guy here in town who used to play through a 3x8 Princeton Reverb hotrodded w/6L6s and always sounded great. It was a fine small club amp, but it really couldn't cut on larger stages. It was also a good harp amp as well.

There's someone here who's making 2x8's, and although I haven't heard one, I've heard one of his 1X8's that someone is playing a blackface bassman head through. It sounds HUGE. I doesn't seem like it should, but close your eyes and listen with your ears. I think alot of the problem is that alot of 8's out there are not good speakers being used in low end amps in not so great cabs. If a 12 was a typical "beginner" amp speaker, we would probably be afraid of anything less than a 15.

I use a 4x8 closed back front bottom ported with Jenson Mods!
My buddy builds them sounds out front fat and hugs walls easy, small as well as light.

Photo shows a prototype 4x8 and PtP 18 watt EL-84 Bonepicker reverb head, came out nasty looking first time tolexing and covering grill, the cloth was to thin and light.
But killer punchy cabinet and sweet amp.

We got the tolex thing down now as well as the right grill cloth.:D

I built one and loaded it with the 8 ohm Jensen MODs. I loved the Jensen 6ohm MOD in my that I put in my Champ and the two MODs in the 2 x 8 were tight and crunchy; warm at lower volumes.

Ear Candy builds a fantastic 2 x 8.

My home built may resemble the Ear Candy cab but it's just a wild coincidence.

I sold the 2 x 8 on ebay and bought a 1-12" Lopo just because I wasn't happy with my woodworking results. Building a cabinet is fun and humbling. I'll bet that if I made 10 of them I could figure a few things out (do a better job).

I put about $115 into my 2 x 8 including the MOD speakers from www.tubedepot.com

I has at Home Depot and saw the 12 x 24 x 3/4 rock maple sanded finished boards that kitchen cabinet makers will make cabinet doors out of. I thought that it would be really easy to buy 6 of them at $8.00 each and make a guitar cabinet. It's fun. It wasn't easy because I have no patience. If you have patience and some woodworking skill; you could do a great job.

You could get some rough dimensions just by looking at some finished products on web sites.

John, your build is what has inspired me to build one myself. I've got an Epi head like you do in the photos. I hope it comes easily to me. I do have a lot of patience. My wife says thats one of my super powers.

I looked into the EarCandy, but its way too expensive.

Ramseybella, thats one sweet looking setup!

I played a Vox 4x8 cab a few years back that I really liked. I hear that's a killer set-up for harp, too

I've built a number of 15 watt and 35 watt 4x8 combos. I like to use 2 weber 8F125's and 2 Weber 8A125's,,, For harp I use Weber 8F125-0's
For my Combo cab I just go 20 x 20 inches, all pine cab like the old tweeds.

It's weird that you're asking about a 2x8 speaker cab. I'm having a Marshall Red/Wheat grill Fender Vibro Champ piggy back being built. Its going to have the head sitting on top of the cab just like a Bassman piggy back combo. The cab will be 15" tall and not sure how deep. The cab will be loaded with 2 Weber Ceramic Blue Pup 8" 15 watt speakers. It will be an openback cab and will have the tilt-back legs. It's definitely going to be a cool looking combo. I should have it in about a week. I will be gigging with this set up as we mic our amp when we gig. I'll be able to set it shooting back at me like a monitor. I really looking forward to this little set up.
