For years I used effect pedals but I thought it didn't help the guitar sound. Now the last 2 years I only play guitar directly in the amplifier without any effect pedal in between, not even a tuner. Who does this also and not unimportantly, what kind of music do you play?

I do. Got the only effects I need inside my Swart (tube reverb/tube tremolo).

I do now that I got a Blackstar ht5 head. I just use a clip on tuner and the amp doesn't need pedals other than the included channel switching pedal. Adding a delay and tremolo is fun sometimes but i'm usually too lazy to do that when playing at home.

I play blues, classic rock, hard rock with some clean required.

I still have pedals for my other amps but they aren't always required either.
I have a power soak that sometimes comes in handy.

No tubes now, but I haven't used pedals since I sold the lot in the 80s.

    I usually play without pedals.
Occasionally I will break out the Zoom M-50G for reverb, chorus, and a different dirt sound.

At least 50% of the time. Depends what I’m playing. If I just need a bit of crunch and reverb the amp does that.

The only pedal I own is my dad’s old Tubescreamer. I sometimes play it just because I miss him. Otherwise I don’t use pedals.

My pedal collection sits on top of my amp gathering dust mostly, I've got a looper somewhere as well... I let the guitar player in our trio use the ones he wants, as I'm playing Bass...

guitars at home go straight into the super210 on the drive ch usually....:)

I use a '75 Telecaster straight into a '77 Princeton Reverb. I have fiddled with pedals but don't feel the necessity for them.

93% of what I do is effectively (no pun intended) just the guitar and amp, all pedals in bypass.
However, I ditch all FX when learning new material, and go straight into the amp. I feel it's more important to get the notes right than sound just like the recording. I guess that is why I ultimately go lightly with the pedals. I've really not given it much thought until now. I respect those guys who go out with just a guitar, amp, & cable and are able to pull off an entire night.

I know at least 5 people who's entire pedalboard is just a TS. I love how you tribute your dad with it. My dad was an electrician and sometimes I will pull out his old analog multimeter for old times sake, and to remember him.

Have posted pic before. I have a few different amps and several different guitars and, when playing live, to me they all sound best with no fx besides reverb and occasional amp tremelo.
    Just me though....

Most of the time I go straight into the amp. I have pedals but only use them when I really need them.
I will use the analog delay in small rooms or my blues driver once in a while because I have been told that I am too clean ... what ever that means. All in all I prefer to plug straight in to the amp.

I use pedals now due to the type of music I play, but in the days when I plugged a Les Paul straight into a JCM900, that was the best tone ever. Everything seemed to immediate and right in yo' face. Nothing I have played since has ever come close to that sound.

    Hi.

In my current return to messing around with guitar, for a fair while I played straight into my amp. I really like the sound of somewhat cranked Vox AC amps. I find revving them up a bit, I don't really feel the need for OD pedals.

But, since my wee AC4HW1 has neither reverb nor anything else, I started to want a little movement or wobble. So I bought a tremolo. Which made me go looking for my old pedals. Finding only one of them, I bought more. Slippery slope didn't prove to be a fallacy in this instance. Oh well...

    Sometimes.

I use an AC15C1x, so I have the reverb and tremolo.

The trio I'm usually with does a lot of Waylon and old rockabilly. The delay and the phaser are nice, but not a total requirement.

I always wished they would make a pedal that sounded like I was plugged straight into the amp.:D
