Freddie Blassie.
"Classy Freddie Blassie, the Hollywood Fashion Plate. He looks good wherever he goes!"

So many to choose from, so many great taglines. But what I loved most was the good guy vs. bad guy commentary. Jesse the Body Ventura was great in the latter category.

Of the dentally-challenged British Bulldogs: "Those boys look like they floss with rope."

Of the Country Boys tag team of Uncle Elmer, Cousin Luke, and Hillbilly Jim: "How'd ya like them to do your taxes?"

And when a mystery wrestler would be called into the ring with "From parts unknown, weight unknown," Jesse would say, "Parts Unknown--the only place in the world without a scale."

I like the divas. I'd prolly actually watch it if that's all was. No desire to watch greasy dudes grabbing each other. Hot chicks though? Yeah I'm in!

Big Daddy. Always and forever. A man for all seasons - kids loved him, Dads learnt their best moves from him, and a bit of eye candy for the ladies.

Commentator: An amazing sight...who calls himself the ultimate object of desire...a mountain of molten lust

The Ultimate Warrior!

When I was a kid, I saw him on "WWF" and was blown away! (didn't realize how he had makeup on his face, it did look super cool though).

Fritz von Erich? Must be old as hell.

I'm old too, but an old Mid Atlantic Championship Wrestling fan. Flair, Wahoo, Blackjack, Arn, Minnesota Wrecking Crew, Paul Jones, Ivan and Nikita Koloff, Greg Valentine, Steamboat, Rufus, Boogie Man, Mr. Wrestling, Johnny Weaver. Flair would get my vote.

Rufus R. Jones!

IF YOU'RE YOUNG, REVEREND SLICK WAS HIS SON!

We must have watched all the same shows out of Kansas City back in the early 70s. The greatest matches of all time might have been Rufus v. Handsome "Mad Dog" Harley Race. "No Disqualification: This Match Can Only Be Stopped By a Doctor". Guess who stopped it?

They were ELECTRIC in the ring together. I would still pay to watch those guys every chance I had. I'd pay to watch the re-runs if I could find them.

By the mid-70s Harley had deservedly, but with help from Rufus, become a star. Rufus went to the Carolinas, where he did the same thing for Ric Flair that he had done for Harley Race, being the hero to the villain who needed a foil to become famous.

Rufus died relatively unknown except to hard-core wrestling fans. But he helped put both Harley Race and and Ric Flair over (the top). Perhaps the most unheralded great wrestler of all time.
