Who is your favorite fingerstyle jazz player on the scene TODAY, so no Lenny Breau or George Van Eps, as wonderful as they are

Can't forget Bill, pick/finger, still called fingerstyle imo, at his minimalist best. What l love about minimaism is there's room for my brain to interact like I'm having a dialog with him.

Martin Taylor was on my radar and in a guitar magazine interview, he said he was playing upstairs in this fancy expensive hotel. As Martin was done and leaving, he heard solo guitar over at the quick restaurant they had in the lobby. Martin stopped and his jaw dropped. There was Tuck playing solo guitar.

Martin has since mastered Tuck's amazing funky right hand featuring double picking with the thumb playing up/down strokes. Martin uses this Tuck technique all the time today.

Martin playing fast, that thumb is crazy good.
This is amazing.

The guy has two huge guitar companies for a first and last name-- no kidding he's a great guitarist!

I don’t believe that Dykes is usually classed as a jazz player, though he can play anything very well.
Darn, I should've read it more carefully! You're right. I say Tuck Andres then. Thanks for pointing that out. I was in a rush and should have read the post title better. Doh!

Martin Taylor for me. Totally amazing. First time I heard the Artistry album was a jaw-dropping moment for me.
I had the great pleasure of seeing Martin play with Stephane Grappelli at the Armadillo World Headquarters, in 1979.
He was only a few months older than me, but he was a perfect accompanist/foil for the great violinist.
Martin is the “heir apparent” to Joe Pass’ legit jazz guitar throne, IMO.

Breathing is the hardest thing for Martin I think.
