I certified as a pharmacy technician through a national organization, Pharmacy Technician Certification Board, in 1998. Less than three years later, the state decided to require a license, administered much the same way as nurses, cosmetologists, aestheticians, actual pharmacists, and many other professionals are registered. To remain employed in Texas, I don't have to maintain the national one, but nearly every tech I know keeps both current.

My area of pharmacy practice required courses in IV compound preparation, and a course on basic non-sterile compounding (creams, ointments, capsules, suppositories, etc.) I haven't made an IV since I left hospital practice five years ago, but I'm certified to do so anywhere. I've taken the other, more basic course twice, in 2004 and in 2018. Those are more certifications than licenses.

I have a FCC Radiotelephone Operator's License too, from the days when I was a radio announcer! :D

Class A3 commercial driver's license, everything but hazmat (dropped that part years ago), Class B passenger endorsement, which adds motor coach/tour bus but does not include school bus, that's a separate endorsement (that I DO NOT want anyway).

Up until a few few months ago, I used this license on a weekly basis, but due to the current 'situation that we cannot mention', all activity in that particular field has dropped to zero.

    Cool, another amateur radio operator.

I have a professional engineering license in a couple of states. The license has been beneficial to me as an additional income generator. But some of the idea of the state licensing folks to practice trades and professions has me baffled. Anything more I say on that topic will tend to be perceived as political (and may well be), so we will leave that alone.

Considering some of the absolute hacks that drove my school busses, I’m thinking that endorsement couldn’t have been all that hard to get. At least back in the day. But, I wouldn’t want that one, either.

LPN, yeah, it's necessary to do the job, and definitely generates revenue for the state as well. Good through Feb of '21, but.....dunno if I'll ever return to my job, with these darned hips...FMLA for now, still need the left replaced as well. Gettin' old ain't for sissies!!!

For decades I was certified/licensed as a HazMat shipper for all modes of transport, including container ships. You wouldn't believe the things they'll let you put on a 1000-foot-long vessel if you're certified and know how to create the documents. I also had a Hoisting Engineer's license for quite awhile, which allows you to drive everything from large fork lifts to giant cranes, depending on what your training is and what exams you've taken. I was on the lower end of that scale.

My job was usually driving senior groups from Rapid City to Deadwood on day-trip gambling junkets at the casinos up there, actually not a bad little driving gig, I kind of miss it, but probably not nearly as much as the nice old ladies who very much enjoyed getting out for a day.

    I had a license to steal ...

But they are hard to get ...

And I'd rather not go into detail...

On the advice of my legal team ...

The statute of limitation hasn't expired.

    ...

    Soon ...

To be sure... I am not a wedding planner or coordinator. I am simply the person officiating the ceremony itself, making sure all of the boxes are checked so that I can sign the document, and gather the witnesses required.

No way in the world I would ever take on the responsibility of being a wedding planner.

I have my Social Work license. It’s required to be a supervisor in Child Protective services. I think that we should prefer that the agency that makes recommendations to the court regarding the safety and well-being of children employs people who meet a certain level of professional training and standards.

But did you also have a 00 license? Do you I know Jimmy? Can you get an autograph?

Not for me, for a friend who is curious.

I was Ordained in my 20's.. couldn't handle being "holier 'n thou".. later in life had a Real Estate License, never really used it... then moved on to Insurance... did fine, but got so sick of the Continuing Education bull, I bailed... then I tried Securities... Holy Cack... I never saw such a collection of thieves... until eBay rolled in...

The bottom line and common denominator is/was, I just was never cut out for life in an office, and/or office environment... and since I really found solace fiddling with guitars in the evening, i put up zero resistance to the ever growing avalanche that swept me to where I am today.. There iz a Gawd... :D

I'm also a licensed Professional Civil Engineer. Definitely not just a state fees grab.

Believe me, you want some way of being certain that someone in my field knows what they're doing. There's a long series of hurdles - education, experience, and examinations, over the course of years - that you have to clear to become a PE.
