It really is. John Scofield has a sense of humour that comes through in his playing.

I agree with all the ones mentioned here and would like to add Jimmy Herring. (In case I missed the name going through this thread)

Alan Holdsworth, (said to be Eddie Van Halen's favorite guitar player) is just mind blowing when you're in the mood for some completely different.

I saw him live and had to leave before the end of the show.I was completely saturated. Couldn't stretch my brain any more. Great show.

Good specific question. Easier to answer than "the best" or "greatest". Either Eric Johnson or Tommy Emanuel. Or both.

+1 for Knopfler & Beck here.

I didn’t know they counted as enormously accomplished techically.
Then I think I should add Hendrix and Bill Frisell.

I looked at all the posts and did I really not see John Petrucci?!?!?

Not only is he a monster Technically who can play with "feel" and sense of melody, but he writes great songs.

For me.. Brent Mason, Steve Morse and Chet Atkins.

I love many other players, including many on this thread. But several of them are hardly what I would call "technically accomplished".... they just "do it their way" (which is also great)

many already mentioned, a few I didn't see, perhaps I just missed...

on the slide front: Kelly Joe Phelps, Sonny Landreth and Bonnie Raitt

and some of the Brazilian players, like Milton Nascimento, ok, too many to mention.

JULIAN LAGE has been selected many times here,

If there was an afterparty with all the chosen great players, and of course me,,, Julian being a "guitarist's guitarist" could play for everyone there, because Julian is the cutting edge of today's jazz/rock guitar scene,

This has become my latest favorite Julian video that I can't stop watching.
The whole trio is spectacular, the 2nd tune at 7:58 burns it to the ground. Everyone at the party is going nuts,
