Remember the early DiMeola was pretty much a kid - he joined RTF at the tender age of 18!

RALPH TOWNER, mind boggling acoustic abilities,

AND,,, he is the only guitar person in history to have TWO craters on the Moon named after his compositions. Icarus is the most famous, and the band Oregon entertained the astronauts on the way there.

    Icarus - Oregon

    If

Toledo - one of my faves, I tried to play just the head, way too hard,

Only guitar players will sing the praises of these guys. Add Josh Smith.

amazingly, no one seems to have mentioned Richard Thompson yet, so:

Already mentioned, but John Scofield's playing is very ear-catching to me. His style is playful and always interesting.
He did a country record in 2016, and on this track is emulating George Jones' voice to a tee.

Thanks for posting these. Ralph Towner's name is familiar to me but his music is not.
Whenever I'm confronted with music where I hear quality but it doesn't grab me, I figure it's because I haven't heard enough.
What's a good Towner record to start with?

This changes almost daily for me lol! But some have stood the test of time.

I have always been a huge Scott Henderson fan, same with Oz Noy, Eric Johnson, Mike Stern, Steve Morse, Holdsworth, Metheny, Benson, Vai, Scofield, Frissell - I could seriously go on.

Newer cats (or newer to me):
    Mark Lettieri
    Mateo Mancuso
    Matt Schofield
    Andy Timmons
    Josh Smith
    Julian Lage
    Mateus Asato
    Corey Wong
