I introduced a former GF to Rory Gallagher. After a few minutes she said, "He sounds like Hendrix." I never heard that point of view before. She was quite musical, sang and played guitar. I told her that was interesting, I'd never thought of that before.
For me it's Doyle Bramhall II... felt that way since I first heard the Arc Angels.
Yeah, I like his Wind Cries Mary. Hendrix-y but not excessively.
Definitely the guitarist from Black Death.
My vote would go to Frusciante, the Stadium Arcadium years in particular. The sonic experimentation and riffs, along with his live appearances (he seemed to be wanting the Hendrix comparison to be drawn).
