Just got an 89 American standard Tele black with maple neck. In excellent shape except three way switch and tone controls are a little sticky. Also, unpluging from input jack seems a little to tight. Remove control plate and observed white powder like sandings from body filler or maybe clear coat inside. Looks like some stuck on blade switch. I was told this guitar was played for two years in lessons and has sat in its case for the last 20 years. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Also, what should I clean controls with that won't damage guitars finish.

Thats excess from when they polished it on the buffer wheel.

You will find that fine white residue in all kinds of Fenders.

If you don't want it, you can bag it and sell it in the classified section. Telecaster junkies will spend lots of money on it. If you ground down an original '52, you could probably make about four million dollars. :D

Well, it was the 80s... in fact, it was commonly found in all kinds of cavities.

Naw, it's the ashes of his liver, which was replaced by a Jarvik Liv-O-Caster 5000 (vintage blonde with black bileguard) a few years back.

To get a Tad serious for a moment, there are (2) types of white Powder (residue) you may find....One as mentioned, is the Buffing Compound...the other I have shown in the Pic is found on older Guitars left in less than Ideal conditions...usually shows up on Pots & Switches...Whole different animal.
