I had to look up this “Billie Joe” turns out inherited that album when I was about 12 years old and never listened to it because the title sounded too country ( although I’m gonna have to revisit it and will probably enjoy it now) and Bobbie Gentry is holding what looks to be a sweet old martin

According to some reports it was Warren Beatty. I seem to recall one other possible person. Clear as mud.

That was never in doubt. Mrs Loud says "Then sooner or later you'll be screwin around" and Loaf Stops her with a decisive "No! I won't do that!" He'll do anything for love except cheat on Mrs Loud even though he's a horny monster.

This. Tyler Mahan Coe's episode on Bobbie is a must listen in "Cocaine and Rhinestones." To paraphrase, it doesn't matter what they threw off the bridge. There are abundant clues that this girl was close to Billy Joe and yet they are so completely oblivious to her searing pain that they discuss his death over a meal and wonder why she isn't eating.

As for me...I want to know where Mavis finally wound up?

That one may be answered in the first verse, here's the lyric:
"I'll never lie to you and that's a fact"
