Wow! Whatever it is.........wow! Don’t normally like ‘glitzy’ Teles but that thing hits the spot.

    .

    Looks great!

Well ... until a closer look reveals a Squier pair of string retainers, a Squier truss rod adjustment hole, and those long bolt six barrels. Tuners, while they say Fender, look more like the import Squier Affinity type.

Take the pickguard off, the bridge plate off, and the control plate and post pictures of the back sides of the pickups and all the electronics. See more of the mystery. Some people may want to peek at the body neck pocket and the back/end of the neck heel.

I’m no specialist, but it doesn’t look like the 1981 black&gold: top loader bridge, different headstock paint and logo, misaligned tuners, neck heel. The Fender USA serial number could be fake too. Same as Jvin248.

The neck heel looks a little funky to me. The plastic plate under the neck plate isn't a good sign either along with the toploader etc that has already been mentioned. The pain line on the headstock near the nut looks a little off too.

On the plus side it does look good and I like the cutaway, satin finish and ambered binding etc.

Judging from all of the pictures I’d say that you bought yourself a counterfeit.

A Fender neck has stamps, several typically and so does the body. So next time , take the neck off and check it out that way. It takes 5 minutes and the guitar is designed to do that.

Just to be clear, from your pictures I don’t see one part that could be an original Fender part.
Well, the real ones seem to be worth more like 2000$... You don’t find this kind of deal in real life. The crooks are asking for a price that is tempting, because you think maybe it’s not the real one, but it may be made with some real Fender parts? No! Not even Squier parts. One guy bought this guitar from China for 250$ or less and is selling with a small profit. It’s common practice on local ads and all those grey market places.

When in doubt make a search on sites like aliexpress where they hardly ever sell anything that’s not a fake. Type « black gold tele », scroll down and you’ll see your guitar... I don’t want to link or copy here, but there it is. :(

The good thing is that you have not ripped 1600$ from an uninformed seller. And this guitar looks good. ;)

A buddy of mine has an original. The original Black & Golds had a very robust bridge on them. Yours, unfortunately, does not.
