It has been 4 years since I got divorced, after a 32 year marriage. It was brutal.

The other day on a whim I bought the vinyl album U2 Achtung Baby.

Then this song came on, I hadn't heard it in years, and I started bawling like a baby.

"And I can't be holdin' on to what you got.. When all you got is hurt"

Just kills me.. so many memories and tough times.

I think this is U2's finest song ever and Bono OMG he is incredible, the emotions in the song.

Which songs make you cry?

There are a few that get to me, and particularly that I find I can't sing, because i just choke up on them.

For a long time, I felt that Guilty, by Bonnie Raitt (okay, by Randy Newman, but I mean Bonnie's version, got me that way: "It takes a whole lot of medicine for me to pretend that I'm somebody else."

Bonnie Bishop has a song that gets me - Sweet on the down low.

Bruce Springsteen, the song Living Proof:

"I put my heart and soul, I put 'em high upon a shelf
Right next to the faith, the faith that I'd lost in myself
I went down into the desert city
Just trying so hard to shed my skin
I crawled deep into some kind of darkness
Looking to burn out every trace of who I'd been
You do some sad sad things baby
When it's you you're trying to lose
You do some sad and hurtful things
I've seen Living Proof."

I'm better these days - oh yeah "These Days", Jackson Browne! - but I still can't sing those!

A few that can really get to me, though not really a crier ( 'tear up' yes):

- Bonnie Raitt singing Jackson Browne's " My Opening Farewell "
- John Prine- " Sam Stone" or " Christmas in Prison"
- " Fire and Rain" - still!
I know there are others...

Give 'em the beans!
Paper Hearts, "Circles", the acoustic demo version that I can't find online. Here's the release version.

Death Cab For Cutie, "Title and Registration"

The Band's "Katie's Been Gone". When we lost our beloved mutt KD I couldn't listen to that song for years, still messes me up.

"Katie's been gone and now her face is slowly fading from my mind.
She's gone to find some newer places,
Left the old life far behind."

😥

Lately it could be any song that catches me and lumps me up. Just today I was listening to the new Red Hot Chili Peppers and a couple songs stung me for one reason or another.
In another thread about a member singing and playing at his daughters' wedding just thinking about that makes me well up!

A lot of the songs on this album, I can never get through it in one piece, even though it's one of my favourite albums. It's partly the lyrics and partly the music.

Zane Williams’ Jayton and Jill. It’s a song about redemption, of two people by each other. There’s no need, or even room, for the metaphysical in it.

I remember a live video of Abba playing Knowing Me, Knowing You. That one girl was belting it out with years streaming down her face.
I never knew why she was crying, but that one still makes me a little teary since then.
