Seriously, this is a pressing question! I've always worn white below-the-ankle (i.e. peds) socks with cargo shorts. Lately, I've seen some people wearing black crew socks (mostly millennials), which I always thought was an "old man" kind of thing. Now I'm thinking, maybe strike a happy medium and go with ankle socks in either black or white?

    What's your preference?

It may depend on the shoes.

I wear hiking boots or black high tops with cargo shorts. Helps make the shorts look less goofy. Black boots look cool with cargo shorts... try and make the shorts black, not tan.

    A trick question, right?

If not, I won't tell you the right answer, you'll just have to figure it our for yourself.

Any socks will do but sandals are a must. No shoes or sneakers. Crocs if you must. Flip flops with toe socks are ok too.

Maybe not my preference, but black knee high support socks are what I have to wear these days.
Probably a better look with plaid shorts than cargo shorts.

Black, men’s sheer ankle socks. And you need colorful suspenders and a big, floppy peddler’s cap. And an Iron Maiden t-shirt.

Those low cut ones slip down on me.
I'm not young enough to get away with high black.
So it's a shorties for me.
I don't wear cargos though, and I generally only wear socks and shorts when hiking or working.

I will do crew sox with workboots and shorts.

    Gadzooks I'm old.
