I’ve played medium Fender picks for years. I also play with my fingers and nails. My nails sound best, but I play better with my pick which I suppose would change eventually if picks were not available.

mare there picks which sound more like nails and if so, what are they and do you use them?

Should have said that I also sometimes use a thin Dunlop USA Nylon .60 for acoustic strumming which sounds good. Also sounds good with p bass flat wounds.

That's an interesting one... I don't have the answer but two thoughts:
    - The pick would need to be pretty firm
    - When nails are used, they typically touch the string at an 'unconventional' angle, almost lifting it. The angle of attack may have to do more than the pick material.

Acrylic picks might work for you. I know some folks use acrylic nails for finger picking but don’t know how similar the sound is. When I hybrid pick I use the fleshy part of my fingers, I do too much work with my hands to maintain any kind of nail. I do use acrylic flatpicks frequently and like the sound and feel.

I have some horn and bone picks...never gave it much thought, but they ought to be very close in composition.
