So this TV yellow Epiphone with P-90s came with black bell knobs. How does that compare with reflector knobs?

To be honest, I’d put some black chrome dome knobs (like a Telecaster would have) on it...I’ve seen several people do this and it looks :cool::cool:

I much prefer picture 2 with the reflector knobs.

When the reflector knobs radiate capacitance or something across the plane of the pickup inductance, you can get subtle but remarkable tone malarkey as long as the reflector material isn't ceramic.

The black ones sound lifeless IMO.

I could go either way. While the reflectors look nicer, they might look too nice for a Special. To me, Specials and Juniors should have that bare bones look.

You get a purer tone from the black ones.

Pic 1, I find the reflectors draw my eye to them instead of the guitar body as a whole.

    But most importantly:

I have owned two Specials and each one received a set of reflector knobs. Granted mine were finished in black and then red but even on yellow I would do the same.

Dome-top Tele knobs look much better.

The black bell knobs are standard for a Special. I'd keep a Special looking like a Special.

Between the two I’d say black. The reflectors are a little too fancy for a no nonsense guitar
But the gold is worth considering

And they've even got a "G" on them.

I think it's funny that the opinions here seem to be that reflector knobs appear high-end.
To me, they don't. To me they relect more a teisco/sears import stripped-down lo-end kitsch aesthetic.
And, to me, that's not a bad thing, depending on the guitar
I swapped out the reflector knobs on this (note them lying next to the guit on the table) for something I thought reflected more "class" appropriate to the guitar:

...and yet I prefer the reflector knobs on my Dillion junior, for that guitar

Reflectors say “seventies” to me, not exactly the era of Gibson production I want to emulate. So I vote for tha black bell knobs.

I’m facing a similar decision on my newly-acquired faux LP Junior, but I think I’ll end up with gold speed knobs, ‘cuz that’s what’s in the junk drawer.
