Eric has been quoted as saying he felt that Carl Radle and Jim Gordon where the best rhythm section in Rock N Roll.

I love his tone overall, but this has got to be the punchiest one I've ever heard.

Uh! This is the Elephant in the room of tone. Paul starts to become vicious in all aspects of bass playing with the 35 Rain/Paperbackwriter. i wonder in amazement hoe the guy conjured up the sounds he got on bass. The guy looks like a smiling creampuff;then listen to I want you. Holly cow. Paul just slays stuff. Even on some of the pop he did post Beatle,(which sometimes made me wince), but silly love songs. The guy walked in from left field.

Not sure if this qualifies as a "good" bass guitar tone, but Ross Valory on the "Escape" album... I though it was a little obnoxious when I first listened to it decades ago, but it's almost like he predicted that people would someday listen to music on crappy cell phones, because that bass tone cuts through crappy cell phone speakers when most other bass players just sort of vanish when played through a phone.

JJ Burnel from The Stranglers. Not tone so much as an assault.
