Where/when do you do most of your music listening for enjoyment?

Man oh man, I listen to music at least 8 hours a day. I have a huge cd collection that I’ve transferred to my iTunes cloud and the paid access to iTunes as well. I listen at home on my old school stereo system that is quite awesome if I do say so myself. I got a portable Bose speaker with a handle that we use on daily walks. Even my old truck has a decent sound system.

Very rarely listen to music nowadays. If I'm learning an old song that I liked as a youngster I play it over and over till I learn it and that's it. Don't listen to it on the job I need to consantrate and it's a job not a party. I've had help that wanted to listen to the radio and have told them to go home and listen to the radio and I can hire someone who wants to work. It may seem unreasonable but it only takes a split second to get injured or killed on a construction site.

I played “That’s Life” by Frank Sinatra a few times in a row the other night in the vehicle on the way to take my dog for a night walk. I had heard the song earlier that day and was struck by it. I couldn’t get it out of my head, so I had to play it. It’s rare that I seek out music to listen to anymore, but sometimes I will listen to a song on YT.

Any time I'm awake at home. As soon as I crawl out of bed until I go somewhere or go back to bed. No TV at my house.

Driving I listen, earbuds at work.

Probably 2 hours a day max I'm not listening to music.

With the exception of mowing, I even listen doing yard work.

Although I have about 500 CD's (after giving many away) left, I no longer have a CD player!

So the great majority of my listening for entertainment time is bed time.

My IPods run out of juice too soon, so I use an old, cheap pair of plug in's I found.....I guess I should upgrade, but when it's bed time I hit one of my stations on Pandora, and depending on my pain level/mood/etc, I'm usually hitting dream land in 20-45 minutes.

At least it (sometimes) makes me look forward to bed.

At night, I'll watch Youtube vids while I'm dinking around on the computer.

I've got a decent mid-fi rig in the living room that I'll put on when I'm doing stuff around the house. I'll also sit on the couch and actually listen. I've got all of my music on a Raspberry Pi/DAC setup.

In the car, I've got an older iPod with over 3400 songs on it - put it on shuffle and it's the world's greatest radio station.

I have my component system from the early 90's (Harmon Kardon AM/FM tuner, Sony CD player, NAD integrated amp), but I only use the amplifier these days as I line-out my Focusrite USB audio interface into it, and out of my early 90's B&W loudspeakers. So basically all my music comes from my PC, but I listen to it through the old amp and speakers.

Unless I'm doing one of those "special nights" as mentioned above, in which case I'm listening from my phone through headphones.

I always have music playing whenever I drive-- same when working out too, it makes the time go by faster especially when doing cardio. Sometimes just when walking around the neighborhood or going for a hike, I'll have my earbuds in as well. Although, I may be listening to a podcast instead of music.

Every once in a while, if I'm working on a project of some sort or something like that, I might listen to music at work. But only very occasionally.

Doing yard work or cooking out... usually music playing, sometimes I might be listening to sports.

I never listen to music when riding my bicycle; I was hit by a car several years ago, and always want to be aware of my surroundings.

For me it's every morning in the shower, and in the car whenever I'm driving (which I do very little of these days)

I've considered listening through earpods while walking around the city, but I think that'd be potentially hazardous with all the horrible drivers around here - having said that I should start listening at the gym, rather than being subjected to all the "ooon ssss ooon ssss ooon sss"

where and when do you do your music listening for enjoyment? (to differentiate from for learning guitar parts)
I listen to the same radio station at home, my car or at work (streaming live off my computer): Jazz FM 91.1 out of Toronto. It's 99% ad free, so you get a lot of music, the kind I like to listen to (mostly). Other than that, when I'm at home I'm often sitting at the dining room table working, where the stereo is and where there's a lot of records to choose from.

Music is a near constant presence in my life. That being said, I don't wear ear buds while cycling (something I do a lot) as it's dangerous to be so tuned out. If I'm walking somewhere or taking the dog for a walk, similarly, I don't use ear buds as I like to hear what's going on around me.

In the car going to from work. If I’m with the wife in the car we usually assign one of us (ok, her) as “DJ” and they (her) gets to pick the music.
Around the house its headphones or Bluetooth speaker.
I only get to listen to music at work if I’m there on a weekend.

Any time I'm in the car for more than 5-10 minutes I'll turn some music on.

And I have a headphone and amp set up near a comfortable chair in my music room, that's where I'll listen if I'm just wanting do nothing but pay attention to the music.

And whenever I'm somewhere noisy or sitting in a waiting room or anything like that I put my Etymotic in-ear monitors in and listen to music. Including walking around downtown where there's traffic noise. I also like to listen with the IEM's if I'm eating lunch in a restaurant.

Then of course there's my iPad mounted on a stand by the chair where I play guitar. That's how I play tunes I'm learning or transcribing or playing along with. But that's more a tool for playing, not a listening-for-listening-sake spot.

Up until very recently, all of my listening was to the thousands (and thousands) of tracks I have downloaded over two decades from iTunes or ripped into iTunes from hundreds of CD's. I also have a few albums purchased on Bandcamp. But I've now switched over to the TIDAL streaming service and that's how I do my listening. Very convenient. My iTunes library had gotten very hard to manage on all my devices.

If you Google “conversion of CDs to FLAC format”, you can do what I did. Burn all of those CDs to a lossless audio format that fits on a flash drive. 500 Cds on about 150 GB IIRC.

Back to the original OP question: I play:
- Classic rock during my morning home gym workouts. Many from above CD conversion collection.
- Spotify Jazz - my playlist for dinner parties.
- I still treasure my pruned/ limited vinyl collection of hard to find guitar jazz and classical piano albums through my Technics turntable and restored -by- me 1959 pilot tube stereo amplifier.
