It’s very hard for me to enjoy music at home , so 99% is at work , working in my yard , or on house , or driving .

In the car mostly, but also at home. Earbuds when exercising.

I don't listen while I drive ... I prefer to hear the engine before I up/down shift my manual car. I do have a Corgi that requires several long walkies daily while I listen to music. I use my Samsung phone from which I stream MP3s that I ripped years ago from CD to bluetooth to a Powerbeats headset. I don't listen to 'new' music on the radio anymore and I ripped a couple hundred CD's so have plenty to listen to.

Sometimes I take a CD or two in the car. My most likely choice: the David Nelson Band's Keeper of the Key. Other frequent flyers are are Odetta, Dave Van Ronk, Ry Cooder, the Dead, and Laura Nyro.

At home sometimes (not usually) we put on a CD or LP before breakfast or dinner and let it run till we're done eating. Then just about anything goes, though my wife does sometimes draw the line at things like digeridoo music, gut-bucket Delta, and atonal crap. To her credit.

At home, on the sofa in our living room.I have all my CDs and Vinyl there, stored in shelfs and my turntable / cdplayer are nearby.A good place to hear music- favorite time for me is in the evening, when everything is done and it is time to relax.

In the car -
Same here.
big fan of NPR.
It's better than anything else on the dial here, but I can't say I'm a big fan. I turn it off when I hear too much:

at the end of the day
DNA
existential
going forward
I mean, . . . .
kind of
move the needle
moving forward
multiple
narrative
preventative
push back
Right so . . . .
So . . . .
sort of
takeaway
under-resourced
unpack
walk back
weaponize
Yeah so . . . .

. . . and a others I'm not thinking of at the moment.

My Iron Rule: If one person starts three sentences with So, Right so, or Yeah so I turn the radio off. No mercy, no quarter, no exceptions. (Yes, I count.)

Whatever happened to good ol' English? Where are people learning to talk these days?

=O.

I've considered listening through earpods while walking around the city, but I think that'd be potentially hazardous...
This reminded me of an actual event.
At one period of time being very busy with work and with little spare time, I took to walking outside (in addition to "working out"), just to get out of the house. I'd vary my circuit to keep it interesting and took a mp3 player and ear buds. I found it very difficult to use only my eyes to keep track of traffic when crossing streets and intersections.

One Saturday afternoon ~ 645 p.m. I walked past a large country bar/night club as part of my jaunt. It took me ~ 2 very long blocks to figure out that a biker on a Harley was on the sidewalk, idling behind and following me, I supposed as a means of mild, joking intimidation. I ignored him and he gave up after another couple blocks. I couldn't tell if he ever said anything to me, as I had the music playing in my ears.
I don't recommend this activity in these areas.
I wonder that this is why there are factions that recommend adding noise to electric vehicles for areas with reasonable, recurring foot traffic.

It's kind of strange, even to me, but I seldom listen to music of any sort these days, except perhaps for the occasional YouTube video of something that I might stumble across that might interest me.

I've found myself in those "slumps" as well.
My recent "cure" was gathering a bunch of new (to me) music that I was intrigued by in a file on my phone . When listening for pleasure, that's all I listen to, currently. It keeps the process fresh with discovery and excitement

I realize you weren't necessarily complaining, at all, about this (non)habit.
I persoanlly simply had sort of somehow forgotten how much fun discovering new (to me) music can be

same here really. For some reason sounds, not volume, do not make me feel good as they use to do. And loud noises / music is an agression to my ear. Pretty soon, i will be bound to listen to exotica and smooth jazz. Awww.....

edit be careful with earbuds. I once almost got run over by an electric car without ear buds. Those cars are stealthy.

When I was a teenager I could listen to music for hours and hours, just sitting in my room and looking out of the window.Nowadays I have times when I can hardly stand any kind of music. So when I sit down to listen to my CDs or Vinyl I have to be in a certain mood and be really relaxed. But there are often times when I just sit down with a book and enjoy silence.

exactly what i meant. I need to psych myself to take my guitar and play along to the set list songs if i have a gig coming up. I do it, like half a set list at the time. It is not so bad once you get into it. Just like vaccuming. Once you get started, you have done the hard part.

edit not long ago i had a dentist appointement, and roger miller's king of the road was playing in the waiting room. Of course not long after i was assaulted with those high pitched tools, was sweating profusely in the dentist chair, and he told me are you holding up ?
I answered huh huh, because the funny thing about the dentist is when he says tell me if this is painful. I can't tell anything he has got his fingers in my mouth and it makes articulation awkward, , but i will let out a small scream when it gets too much.

He could probably tell i wasn't doing so good when he could see the sweat dripping off my forehead.

Never have music playing while driving in town and/or in traffic; only listen if/when I'm on the highway/freeway on a trip that's an hour long or more, from a thumb drive plugged into the vehicle's head unit. Even so, I don't really listen, as the music fades in and out due to my focus on the road. I might catch 15-20 seconds of every other song. Although, when a real rocker comes on, I tend to speed up (bad idea) so I have to watch for that :D .
Otherwise, it's background music through speakers when I work out with weights at home, occasional focused listening on the weekend through the stereo speakers, and sometimes at night through open-back headphones.
I don't sit well while doing nothing, and the reason I started playing guitar is so that I have something to do while listening to music that I like- I listen to me. This does have its limitations, though.

I’m still using iTunes! I have 7,000 songs. Sonos speakers all over my house. I’m retired and listening randomly all day long!
