I've got an early 1970s Michael Scheiner baroque lute that's never been played. His lutes cost between $3000-7000 new, and you can wait years ((link removed)). Where would I go to sell/consign this in the GTA. I'm in no rush to sell so I'd probably consign if that is an option. Google has provided me with a couple places that specialize in violins, violas, and basses (www.remenyi.com, www.georgeheinl.com) What I'm really looking for is a place that deals with all stringed instruments.

luthiers will often help (re)sell their instruments

Have you contacted Mr. Scheiner?

The 12th Fret.

Folkway Music in Guelph and the Ottawa Folklore Centre too if you look beyond Toronto.

Craigslist. Seriously. Collectors are constantly scouring CL and other sites for rare things.
Post an ad. Ask a logical price. See what happens.

Richie Blackmore??
Lol. You reckon I can find him in the phone book?

Thanks for the tips guys. I'll probably bring it by the 12th Fret next time I need strings. I feel like there is a specialty place in Toronto - someone once told me there was but I cant remember the name.

There is a little place tucked away behind Queen's park that sells violins etc. Not so sure about lutes. And there's the weird place inside 401 richmond - but it's maybe more didgeridoo-oriented.

If you were looking for a new one, (other than from a luthier directly) where would you look? Or maybe look up some of the guitar luthiers like Grit Laskin or Linda Manzer and see what they'd suggest. There was also a guy who I think had a luthier school ROMish a while back. Mostly guitars I think, but again, he might have some idea.

Cheers,
Geoff
