Welcome,

After finally finding a strat I like (yes, it turned out I liked the ultra alot) I truly want to end my search for the tele too.
I owned pro II's, players, vintage II 51 teles and the Ultra. I liked all for different reasons.

I feel like my place to be is truly the AO 60 tele, in burgundy mist metallic. I hope it feels like the AVII but has more of the modern feel.

TLDR: But where on earth can I find one?! I can barely find ANY. There's some 50s out there, even LTD ones! And if there IS a 60s it's in Lake placid blue which, believe it or not, is not my cup of tea. Any suggestions where I could find some? I'm even starting to look into the AV 63 teles because I'm losing hope

What's so 'modern playable' about the AO 60's compared to the AVII '63? I was finger tapping on my AVII '63 just today lol the vintage tall frets make the 7.25 radius a non-issue.

I don't know how the common misconception spread that you need a flatter than hell fretboard to play modern music. Just do not get that at all.

Just get the AVII '63. Amazing neck and amazing pickups on that guitar. Super playable for anything you can throw at it

I don't mind the 7.25 as in: It didn't prevent me from doing anything I wanted to do on my AVII 1951 Tele. Infact, I usually go around convincing people they shouldn't be afraid of 7.25

It's just that I can FEEL it, and I do prefer them slightly flatter. I played acoustic for 16 years and those are 12".

That said, part of the reason why I'm so into the AO60 is the double bound and burgundy mist color. The crimson red 63 tele looks nice but i'd like that double bound.

I'm sorry if I made it seem like I linked the vintage radius to limited playability in my original post.
So you have the avII 63? How do you like it and any idea how it compares to the 51?

Good luck is all I can say.

There are a few new LPB ones listed in the UK but I haven't seen BM for a while. Don't imagine that would be any different elsewhere.

Can't see people moving these on in a hurry either, legitimately excellent guitars.

I wish you luck in your quest.

A little while back I found a brand new one in burgundy mist. At that time I had no clue what I wanted or what that series actually was. . . I waited for 2 weeks and the day I decided to just order it, it got sold like an hour before... Nowadays, knowing what I know, I'm heartbroken because it's the last one I ever saw new or used.

I got my hopes up with the release of the AVII guitars that the AOs might show up more on the used market but so far... no. 😞

I can find 50s teles and 50s and 60s strats, it seems like just the 60s tele is mysteriously hard to find.

I didn't get a chance to pick up the '51 when I was there. But having owned ash bodied, early 50's style, maple necked tele's before...all I can say is the '63 is just a little more comfortable of a neck for me personally and a little smoother sounding.

I would've scoffed at an alder tele with rosewood neck before...was scared it would sound too much like my strat. That worry was unfounded. Sounds like a Tele to me. Sounds like my ideal of what a Tele would sound like, actually.

The minutiae we get caught up in for guitars is really unfounded in the real world.....go check out a '63 and if you like the neck, go for it. If it's the aesthetic of the double bound look you crave, hold out for the Burgundy Mist AO. It'll be worth the wait if you are really drawn to that. I think it looks amazing myself! I went with AVII '63 because I've been haunted by Surf Green Teles with Rosewood boards for years and the clay dots just gave me the final push off the cliff lol I do hope that you can find the AO that you want!

I have one in my wishlist, on the website of one of my favorite shops. It’s in Italy.
I think they ship international….
If you want to give it a try!
I think they’re closed during Christmas time, but…
They had also an AO Thinline 60 that was sold around last week…

I adore the look of an ash bodied butterscotch blonde! I may prefer a slightly thinner neck though, which a 60s definitly has. I love maple necks but have tried rosewood boards too and if they feel and look good, I don't mind them at all.

I just find it hard to properly distinguish a 50s tele from a 60s sound wise. I can do it easily for strats, where I know I much prefer the 60s sound. So i'm just unsure which one i'd prefer.

I love your choice on the surf green tele! I like it too but don't have the guts to buy it. I like the mahogany body in crimson red as well. I don't necessarily need that double bound but I do think it adds to the looks. I haven't found a shop to try out the 63 yet, which I might need to consider then... Thanks for your time!

Yes we should! Now, please delete the link before someone else here buys it!

I might jump it. They have the standard 14 day return Policy. Just incase...

How trustworthy is this shop? :)

Done!
The shop is one of the Major retailers for both Gibson and Fender, it’s a >50 years business.
It originally started in Bologna and they opened in Rome too, something like 10 years ago. The guitar is in Rome.
I honestly don’t know how they are for international sales. Maybe take a look at Google reviews!

Yeah I would say wait for one to pop up. If you really want one another guitar is just gonna scratch that itch, but it will come back. One will pop up and you'll regret having purchased another guitar over it. Glad I got mine when I did. I went through something similar with my AV 58. I waited though as some members here said to do. I did just that then later on one popped up though I made quite the drive to get it. Trust me the AO 60s are great guitars. Burgundy Mist Metallic double bound in great in person too. Mine is a looker and a player for sure!

I think the used market sees very few AO60’s Teles because they are legitimately so good that most owners don’t resell them. I doubt you’ll ever see many of them hit the used market and they’re going to become exceedingly rare as time goes by. Not to mention that the AO production levels seemed to be extremely low over the last two years and BGM was only offered starting in 2020.

So based on this you, myself and most others would say; don't hesitate, buy the one you know for sale right now?

I can't try it out but they do have the 14 day return policy

I would agree - great guitar, it appears Fender didn't make as many of this model as it did the other AO models, and BGM was added as a color right before the COVID shutdowns started happening. So it's the "perfect storm" of probably being the hardest to find AO model/color.

If you want an AO 60s in burgundy mist and you know where one is I say jump on it as soon as possible. With the 14-day return policy you'll have a good opportunity to try it out.
