Normally but not always. Cathode bypass cap in the can for the power tubes is pretty normal, it'll be maybe 25 or 50 uf at maybe 50 volts section. See that on old Ampegs pretty often.
Apparently back in the day there was a huge selection of cans or it was easy to order custom ones. Today there's only so much to chose from and once in awhile it's a real pain when there isn't room for individual caps.

    Right...of course.
These are 450V, so they'd be for filtering.
    Thanks.
I'm gonna try to put individual caps in there and keep it looking stock.

    OK...laugh if you must...
This is my first replacement of a can with individual caps.
The fact that you can't see inside and that it's PTP, didn't motivate me to keep it laboratory sanitary, but I think I didn't bugger it up too badly.
The pic is of my ground arrangement.
The chassis is aluminum, so the grounds are mechanical, not soldered.
A piece of 14ga. copper wire not only takes care of the ground, but serves to support the caps, which I held together with a zip tie.
I also found a factory cold solder that was making the Mic channel fizzy.
    I'm happy.
    Sounds great.
