    He turned to DiMarzio.
And their recommendation for A Pair of Super Distortion Humbuckers.
    Well, Of Course!!
Except...they can't seem to find an actual picture of him with a guitar so equipped .

    I found this somewhere online...

Yes, uh, we don't actually have a picture proving this, but, well, ah...

"Get him to endorse our pickups"..."but sir ..he doesnt like em"
"who cares....just get his picture then...if he complains just bung him a few dollars....see if you can obtain any compromising photos or juicy gossip while your at it...that will keep him quiet about all of this"

i have seen pictures of Roy playing a LP, but I have a hard time thinking he would have gone for overwound humbuckers. Just not his style.

Gawd, that's just pathetic. If Roy ever owned a Hamer with Super Distortion humbuckers, he probably pawned it.

I'm picturing Roy with a bound cherry burst Hamer STD (explorer) and some double creme Dimarzio SDs.

He probably needed money for a car payment or something, and consented to the ad. I wonder if there was such a guitar and if he sold it too?

that pointy tele is a mid 80's guild that they made for him apparently.

I saw him playing one of those. It had EMG pickups. He used two JC-120 amps. It was, uh, shrill.

Apparently Roy Buchanan had two Hamer Standards, which would have had Super Distortions in them.

What do you think is more likely, Dimarzio made up an association with Roy Buchanan, or Roy accepted an endorsement and didn't really like the guitars and went back to his Telecasters?

As talented as Roy Buchanan was as a guitarist I'm pretty sure there were probably times in his life that he needed extra more money than the gigs and album sales were paying.
Many different professions the participants make money from product endorsements.
George Foreman probably made more money as a TV pitch Man than he ever did in the ring. [ Remember George Foreman Grilles?]

I played one the Guild Roy Buchanan guitars when they came out. I liked it, sounded good. I just didn't have the scratch at the time to get one.

I know that somebody"fixed" Nancy's pickup and he didn't like it anymore.
Don Mare makes a pickup called Nancy and I'll be darned if it don't sound exact.
