I see Telecasters in nearly every band I see these days, sometimes two guys in the same band playing them. It's kinda like during the SRV days when every band had a hot Strat player who lived on the neck pickup. And then there was a backlash against Strats and you started seeing more variety. Now we're seeing an upswing in Teles, but will we see a backlash?

Why, after all I’ve done for the Telecaster, what has it done for me?
    Me, me, me!
That’s all they should care about!
    But do they?
    Oh no!
They’ll let anyone, and everyone play them!
    Ingrates!
I’m not going to play any of mine (all four of em’!) for
    the rest of the morning.
Where would they be without me?
    Stupid Telecasters!

I've been using and loving a tele since 1968, don't know nothing about a backlash

Best guitar ever designed and built, by a guy that never played guitar.

Not going to happen, but will check back in another 70 years. :)

I think the SRV-Strat "backlash" happened because of the constant slavish SRV imitation, not because of the Strats.

As far as I'm aware there is no current "hot" Tele player that all these guys are trying to imitate, and using Tele's as a means to that end.

I do think Teles are having a 'moment,' across genres and types of music.

I also think the next guitar to have it's moment is the semi-hollow. It is already starting.

All the chicken pickers and twang players will be glad to buy those used Teles when people start selling to shop for 330s and 335s.

i never liked telecasters in my thirty years of playing but when i hit fourty years old i started to see what all the fuss was about but i was completely unaware of any trend. now i'm completely obsessed! it's an expensive addiction. one thing i will say though for a tele to be good you need balanced pickups

I'm still seeing Jaguars everywhere. Usually the more painfully hip and self-conscious the band, the more Jaguars are on stage.

The people that are playing a tele because it's the cool thing to do will move on to the next flavor of the month, the people that play teles because they like them will keep playing them.

I stopped worrying about what the headstock said a while ago. If it’s a Telecaster, then that’s what it is, and it doesn’t
matter where it was made, who it was made by, etc.

I bought the only Telecaster I have owned in 2013 to have a single coil guitar.

Well, I started playing guitar in 1987 and never owned a telecaster until maybe 3-4 years ago, and only because I started seeing them more and more in music videos. Everything happens in phases. I bought a Les Paul in 1988, because of Slash.

It'll end when all of us boomers die off, so we won't be around for it anyways.

Bullroar. We millennials have a serious penchant for Telecasters. I suspect because what makes a good guitar a good guitar doesn't really ever change. Refined a little, sure. But we are fully aware of the marvel that is the Telecaster.
